raine
I just started taking a medicine called Lexapro. Has anyone ever taken this and if so, what do you think? I am hoping with it and therapy I can overcome my obsessive thoughts and jealousy. I also make myself feel really guilty about having them but cannot control them and it rules my life. it mostly effects me in relationships where I think about my partners past and can't stop thinking negative thigns. I wonder if he wishes he could go back and do things different, stay with an ex. All kinds of things run through my head. I always think he is hding things from me (though he isn't), etc. I'm just curious if anyone has had good results using these because I really didn't want to use medicine as a method but I just don't want to feel this way anymore. Thinkalot
Raine, I have the same issues as you and the same feelings about taking meds. But I started on Lovan about 3 weeks ago and they are helping me. I just wanted to start feeling better. Please read my most recent posts in this section, and also in the relationship section. Things will get better for you. Hang in there. I know what its like! I also posted a general question on anti-d's in the health section a few weeks back and got some helpful responses. Good luck. tphillip
Drugs like Lexapro take weeks to become effective. Older drugs typically took 6-8 weeks, but the third generation drugs like Lexapro can take as little as 2 weeks. As for what does the drug do, the best source for that information is the Physician's Desk Reference. It's better than your doctor or the pharmacist because it is THE bible for every drug on the market, done by the manufacturer of the drug. It's updated yearly and will have the latest information on the drug you're taking. Almost every public library, and certainly every pharmacy & doctor's office has one (Or had better). You'll learn about all the possible side effects, how the drug works (If the manufacturer knows), and potential complications. Go to a library, photocopy the pages out of the book, and if you have any questions about what's written go talk to your doctor. That's THE BEST WAY to learn and know about the medication you're taking. As for it's effectiveness, only time will tell. Nearly all of the drugs used to treat mental illnesses and behavor disorders work for some people and not for others, and the only way to find out is to try them. Stick with the dosage your doctor prescribed, and report ANYTHING that may be happening, good or bad. Also make sure you keep a log of how you feel so you can get a sense if the drug is working or not. It's a lot of work, but it's the best way to see if the drug's working and if there are side effects you can't live/deal with. Good luck.
cimmalove1
I have been taking Lexapro for 3months. My attitude has changed and I have a feeling of peacefulness. I don't have the anxiety that i once had and I really like the new me! My boyfriend cheated on me too. You either have to try and trust him or give him up and go on with your life. Good luck!
