The National Day of Prayer is coming up.

For those not in the states: The National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the United States Congress as a day when people are asked to come together and pray, especially for their country. It was created as a floating holiday in 1952 and fixed on the first Thursday in May by Ronald Reagan.

I am not against this, but I have conflicted feelings. Why shouldn't we pray everyday? Why do we need to have a special day to pray? Do people think if we all pray together, our collective prayers will be more powerful, and God will listen to them more? That kinda short-changes God, doesn't it?

Some people need special days to kick their minds up a bit in awareness...sort of a reminder. Sames goes for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc. It's sad...but that's the way people's minds work.

Pray for humanity.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May.It Same goes for Mother's Day,Father's Day,Labor Day etc. It's sad but that's the way people's minds work.God is just too general.Shirley Dobson continued as Chairman of the NDP Task Force Dr. Franklin Graham was the Honorary Chairman for 2010.It provides an opportunity for all Americans to pray voluntarily according to their own faith.

It's a stupid holiday. Enacted during the height of the cold war, to separate god fearing Americans from the soulless commies. Also, it's disturbing how the Senate during this period, essentially ignored the constitution in favor of pandering to the religious right wing... all I can say, is thank god for the 60s.

I wish we wouldn't have a national day of prayer. I think a national day of spirituality would be better, but the people who argue and demand a day for prayer probably wouldn't be satisfied with that. It's their version of god or not god at all.
