ideas for a killer valentine's day?

Recommended Posts

as a preface, we profess to despise valentine's day in the true bohemian anti-hallmark style, and are having a poker night for his single guy friends on the night in question.

we still secretly and shamefully exchange gifts or services on the valentine's weekend, however, and i'm not sure what to do. i'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but i'm maxed out for craft ideas. here are the requirements:

-it must be counter culture

-i've done Cd sets, irksome logo t-shirts, tickets to opera, bukowski books, and other cliche gen X gifts, i need something fresh

-it should be homemade if possible.

What about the personalised fortune cookie idea that was floated on this site a while back?

Or a handmade chequebook with cheques for different things you can do for him (be creative and a bit naughty here :) )

Or, wrap yourself up for him :D

mmmm.... I have been doing some mosaic tiling of pots and the like...you can create cool stuff

Also, handpainted frame, with a piccie of the two of you... (maybe a bit too cutsie for you?)

or, hide something somewhere and create a treasure hunt for it...

I can think of other things, but I think they'd be a bit too traditional for you Jenny!

Or you could give him something non-masculine, like a facial. My guy has had a couple in his time and said it was great!

Does he like chess? If so,buy him a new chessboard. Chess can be romantic, never cheesy. And you have to admit stripchess is far more counterculture than strippoker.

Well, jenny, you could do a "Best of Dave1234" anthology with an Introduction. Dave musings on love, passion and desire are particularly appropriate for V-Day. And his writings are simultaneously unironic and ironic. No mean trick, there.

As Dave would say, it's all about "dick-lay." :)

I like this stripchess idea...but really, wouldn't strip Truth or Dare be even more fun, if less intellectual? ;)

Could someone tell me a bit more about the fortune cookie thing? - or is it pretty obvious? Hope I don't give him ink-poisoning!

Do a search on the web on how to make "personalised" ones. I got some good results. I'm a bit anxious about how I'll go in practice though! Could be a disaster...but the thought's there :) . Write your own messages and put them in the cookies before they cool down and go hard.

Backwards Pun Intended? :D

Back when I was in EMT training we visited a body farm. One of my cohorts picked up a souvineer to give to her beau at the time. A human foot skeleton--well, it was almost a skeleton! I think they were booted out of the training after that and I don't remember what happened to them--but it was a unique gift!
