USMCHokie
Tman mentioned the 5x5 workout in another thread, I've been doing it for about a week or so. I like the routine, I feel it's doing something, but I'm not overly concerned with really building muscle until i lose more weight, at that point I'll be shifting my focus towards muscle building. Right now the two biggest things I want are weight loss and endurance so I don't feel tired on hikes/bikes/runs. But I like lifting weights right now and I'm slowly raising poundage as time goes on, it's just right now it's not really my focus. But keep in mind that lean muscle mass is actually the key to weight loss...due to its inherently higher calorie consumption...so yes, it may slow weight loss for a little while, but you will see much faster and better results in the end if you continue to build a solid base of lean muscle mass early on... Sounds like good advice, I'll keep that in mind. I think I'm doing 'okay' with lifting right now, and cuppa is making me do crazy things all of a sudden which I'm sure is helping I'm pretty sore right now from the past 5 days of workouts and I'm noticing my muscles building (well, I can feel it but can't see it through all the fat lulz) so I hope you're right! cuppa
Oh fine, now you're raising the stakes. Fine I'll do it all friday But really I don't even think what I was doing counts as burpees but it was good exercise. Rorshach, I am not sure if I can do 100 burpee today. I am going to do crossfit tonight and it uses the same muscle groups. Do you want to do this with me too? I can tell you how many rounds I completed in 4 cycles. But the bad news is that I can do handstand push ups but I can't do clapping push ups so I don't know what is the modified version of clapping push ups. Here are the exercises of the day: Complete a cycle of as many rounds as possible in 3 minutes of: 3 handstand push-ups6 clapping push-ups9 box jumps (M:24"/W:20") Rest 90 seconds and repeat for a total of four cycles, Start each cycle where you finished the previous cycle. The score is the total amount of rounds for all four cycles.
cuppa
btw, I youtube clapping push ups last night to see how many women can do this easily (actually there are a few of them, duh). And then I come across with this push-up burn outs (something that my Muay Thai coach want us to do but we suck, no way as close as this guy). Very motivating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOyy-zmnLHc
Star Gazer
Weight loss/gain is 80% what you put in to your mouth, and only 20% exercise.

There is no way I could do a handstand push up (currently), and I don't have the props to do box jumps (unless I want to jump onto my ottoman) but I can try doing clapping push ups for 3 minutes at a time. Or something else?

Initially I blew up when I started pushing the heavy iron but recently I've started shrinking again. In a good way. I'm down to an "a" cup & my upper arms are now 16" without a pump. Lifiting on the 5x5 made a difference in the long run. as i burn away the rest of the fat i'm left with a good portion of muscle to show off now.

Just an added bonus and a GREAT motivator...especially at the later stages of training...

Or something else? don't worry about this one. I did my 100 burpee challenge and had the video (bad angle though). Do you mind if I start another thread so I don't hijack this one? Lets call this LS unofficial fitness challenge , others can join too if they want. My time is 8:57 (worst than last time but I blamed it on my dog, I had to play fetch with him a couple of times in the middle of it). Lets focus on our 100 squats, 100 abmat sit-ups, and 100 push-ups challenge by Friday (4/23/2010). I am going to do it Friday morning before work .
