reservoirdog1
I think a lot of people of faith see atheists as "empty vessels" -- i.e. they simply don't believe, period, and it'll thus be far easier to bring them on board than, say, people who have already "signed on the dotted line" of other religions. However, to me, my atheism is a "religious" position, on par with their beliefs. I'm not an empty vessel -- I have reached my own belief that there is no god, and that if there is some kind of higher consciousness or power beyond our current ability to measure or perceive, it doesn't look anything like the way most religions see their gods. And if there IS some higher power, It doesn't require our acknowledgment, financing, adulation or recognition. It just is.
TaraMaiden
I also think a lot of people of faith see people in other religions, (such as the one I follow) and think - "Oh goody, a challenge!" Particularly when they learn I'm an ex-Theistic follower. Satan has played with my heart and pulled me away from God, and everything I say is merely him talking through me. And the more I resist, the more they press on. so now, I rarely resist. I just look at them, smile, and reply; "I'm so glad that's working for you." And I close the door. Tayla
I have enjoyed the tangents these posts have made and sincerely enjoyed varitable view points. The poster at the beginning made a valid point. At what point does one draw the line in ones home to have *peace* and *regard* for differences in beliefs. If the door said ALL are welcome then its an invitation . I didnt get that the poster was welcoming of intrusive disregard for ones peace and well being in the comment section. And rightly so. I do not tolerate bible thumpers. Way to much ignorance to hide behind words instead of practicing the word. I DO WELCOME folks of any faith or doctrine that lives the life and doesnt spew it. It draws you to them....There is a peace and acceptance that is magnetic. I cant call it charismatic or their personality...its their essence of humbleness and willingness to be open minded...
