Exercising In The Morning

Recommended Posts

With uni starting to move towards the business end of the semester, I'm starting to think that my best option with regards to exercise is to get it out of the way in the morning. Problem is, the only thing I've achieved from my experience exercising in the morning was lightheadedness because of an empty stomach. If I try to counter that with having a breakfast before exercise, I have to wait for the food to go down.

What can I do so that I can exercise in the morning?

I am a morning workout person. I do much better on an empty stomach. My routine is to get up (for about 1 hour before exercise) drink a 12 oz glass of water and a cup of coffee. Then I run. I don't get light headed though and I'm not a big breakfast eater normally. I also tend to eat dinner later at night so maybe that is why?

If I'm not able to run right away then I'll have a cup of yogurt in the meantime and run a couple hours later.

Good Luck!

I do my 90 minute workout routine every morning, I normally eat a bowl of cereal before I go, but since it's a really small bowl of cereal I never really suffered any negative side effects of eating before I work out.

It takes me awhile to warm up and actually get going exercise wise in the AM. I'm not a huge breakfast person, I usually have x2 eggs an hour before my work out. it's hard boiled so not much um liquid to it.

My stomach takes it fine. I much rather work out in the morning, sets the tone for the day and I feel alot better.

I am absolutely worthless in the morning...I tried doing morning workouts a few times...and then I never did it again...I notice is a significant decrease in athletic performance when I train in the morning as opposed to my normal evening time...but if I were forced to train in the morning, I'd just do it on an empty stomach and hope the nitric oxide cocktail was enough to get me through the workout...

I get up in the morning.

Take a scoop of whey protien & maybe an orange or some cereal.

Take my morning constitutional with coffee then lift some heavy weights for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Then hit the treadmill for 30mins.

Try something light like a breakfast bar with water 30-60 min. before working out. Drink a glass of water slowly and not enough to make you feel full. It's also good to keep bottled water or gatorade at your side while working out, sip it every 10 minutes or so to prevent dehydration.

I roll out of bed, take a leak, splash some water on my face, and do some half-assed yoga stretches for ten minutes or so. Followed by some push-ups and some curls. Helps to get me going since I quit caffeine. :D My energy level is definitely better throughout the day.

Exercising early in the morning is the best way to keep yourself healthy. In the morning fresh air goes inside and it increases the blood flow in our body. Fresh air is also quite helpful for better body health. Exercising without eating anything is quite helpful to loose weight.

Working out in the morning is the way to go! Gives a nice jump-start to your day.

I wake up, have like half of a granola bar or protein bar, wait a little while, and then go. I'm hypoglycemic so I can't not eat anything or I'll get the shakes. So I eat just enough to not have a totally empty stomach. ;)

I'm with Hokie on this. While it is my understanding that working out in the morning is best due to the EPOC effect (excess post oxygen consumption) being improved, where your metabolism goes into overdrive for hours following a workout, I simply can't do it. I'm too lethargic, I feel like my blood isn't flowing, and my motivation is way too low. I'm an evening workout person. Good for you, though, if you can do mornings.

I'd recommend eating something small and light before the workout. Maybe some fruit... something to just help avoid the light headedness, but not heavy enough to lead to stitches or cramping. Wait 15 minutes or so, then workout, followed by your real meal (more focused on protein).

I like the morning work out for it gives me a sense of accomplishment to start the day, rather then having one more thing that needs to be done before I can put "the car in park".

But I have to admit in the mornings that bed and flipping to the cool side of the pillow can be sooo seductive :o.

And besides, all the pretty ladies work out in the evenings...:o

I walk for just over one hour first thing in the morning. I am building up to running the distance I walk at the moment, which is about 3 - 5 miles at a fast pace. Then I have breakfast with cod liver oil capsules. I am still very young with this routine (not quite two weeks in) but it is very refreshing.

I am too busy in the evening.

Take care,

Eve xx
