sooo, what counts as a LDR?

so, do you guys use the internet to chat and stay in touch then? is that how you met, or did you live close first, and then move away?? i think more and more people are able to do LDR because of how communication has improved, but i don't know.. what do you guys think??

 

I met my gf on a dating site when she lived nearby in IL and she moved to DC for a great job. The time we spent together while we were in the same area was amazing so that kinda helped our decision to try the LDR. Technology is a huge boost to an LDR. We text each other all day whether it be something about our day or just a random thought, email each other pics of the kids at their various activities, chat at nights on yahoo and even the old fashioned talk on the phone.

 

I remember a gf I had when I was just out of high school. It was before cell phones and email and stuff were big. She moved to Florida and we actually wrote letters to each other haha

1 or 2 hours is really no big deal and can easily be done in one day, no problem

I disagree here. You could live only a hour away but only be able to see each other every 2-3 months or more (like I do with my BF), because of money or jobs.

Wait a second, you mean to tell me you and your boyfriend live an hour away from one another and you only see each other every 2-3 months? I can see how money may be an issue, but even then there's the bus and it's not that expensive. And school/job schedules may conflict but where there's a will, there's a way. My ex lived one hour from me and we saw each other every weekend. He worked nights so he was always tired in the daytime, but when the weekend came he'd come see me no matter what (unless he was sick or something). So I still don't think one hour is a LDR, but that's just my humble opinion.

not trying to be mean but that is crazyyy. neither of you have a car? or can take a bus? an hour bus ride isnt that expensive.

 

Idk I mean either both of you are the biggest workaholics (70 hrs + a week) ever or you don't try hard enough

When both have full time jobs it can be extremely difficult. I have off on the weekends only, but my bf only has off 1 or 2 days during the week, and not on weekends. So unless there was sometype of holiday or something we wouldn't be able to see each other.

Yeah Katie I can see how that would be difficult. That's the reason I'm hesitant to do my postgrad degree in a city 5 hrs away from my bf. Granted it'd be a LOT nearer than our current 10-hour-planeride distance, but he'll be working many weekends as a medical intern. So I'm not sure if it's worth it and if I'd be better off just going to another place instead. If he had been able to have weekends off though I would consider a 5-hour drive a reasonable distance.

 

However, in your place I suppose I would actually go to him during his work days (my off days) and vice versa... it's an hour's drive anyway so it can be made in the evening, see each other during the night, and drive back the next morning, no?
