Age Gap and peoples opinions - should I worry?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I just want to know really if anyone thinks age should be a barrier when it comes to love. I am currently interested in a girl who is 17 (18 soon), I am 29 years old( I'm young looking though, Still have trouble getting served alcahol).

If I'm reading all the signs correctly then this girl does like me, the only thing stopping me from proceeding further is the age thing and what other people, family/friends and work collegues might think about it.

Regards.

Wait until she's 18. If it were my 17 y/o daughter you were talking about I'd press charges! :)

From the sandpoint of a parent I think its a bad idea. Feelings of love may be real, but the experience gap is going to be a very broad jump. What do you have in common?

Well I guess that depends on how much other people's opinions are important to you and whether you would back off if they were important to her. You would encounter some opposition (most likely from her family for a start).

I think other people's opinions are of lesser importance than the effect of a relationship with a much older man on a girl so young. Apologies if you have already sought advice/explored the potential issues from this point of view - if you haven't then you need to. Some such relationships work out fine. In other cases a young girl will express interest in what they perceive to be an unattainable man because it is safer than starting a relationship with someone of their own age group. In fact they may not have the emotional maturity to handle a relationship as an equal or the possible ending of such a relationship. The risk to emotional well being depends in part on the level of experience of past relationships and general emotional maturity.

Hope this helps.

When my wife was 17 she married her first husband, he was 29. She then gave birth to there son when she was 18.

When she was 22 her husband had a stroke and died, he was only 34.

They were very much in love and surely would probably be together today if he had lived.

When I was 19 I went out with someone who was 28. It didn't work out, I was not mature enough and we were at very different stages of our life.

Most of the guys I date are 7-10 years younger than myself....so, I don't think age gap is an issue.

I DO prefer them to be LEGAL though....HAHAHA! You may want to tone it down till she hits 18 just to keep yourself out of trouble.

I think if the 2 ppl really wanna try their hand at it, others opinions should not matter(unless in her case it may be her parents). I'm 17 and right now am trying to hook up with my cousin's lifelong best friend(which is 27). I talked to my dad about it first to see if he had any oppositions and luckily he didn't. So imma try it...I wonder if us bein so far apart will eventually cause problems, and in all likelyhood it will, but if ur "meant to be" u should be able to get over them. And ne one who does not accept the 2 of u, u should just tell em to go to hell. Good luck with ur gal pal!!!

Hello!

Thanks for the opinions people, there's certainly a few things to think over there. I wont be rushing into a decision!
