kassy
Hiya, Does anyone know any good very simple (easy to prepare and not too many ingredients) meal ideas which are wheat and dairy free? Or any good websites to recommend? There's a lot of stuff on the web and I'm slowly sifting through it, but recommendations would be brilliant! Cheers
sb129
I use supercook.com quite a bit, you tell it what you have in your pantry and it comes up with recipe ideas for you. I make a few wheat and dairy free things, I do a nice Thai Beef Salad, and we eat alot of rice, rice noodles, quinoa, cous cous and potatoes. We also eat pulses quite regularly and I make my own hummus to eat with rice crackers. Lots of asian food (like Thai, japanese, indian, malaysian, vietnamese etc) is wheat/ dairy free, and there are lots of vegetarian options. I think Mexican can be wheat/dairy free if you cut out cheese and sour cream.
Author kassy
Thanks SB! Will check out supercook! Sounds brilliant. I live in asia at the moment, so asian food is pretty accessible! Anyone got any wheat and dairy free breakfast options?? bit stumped there.
sb129
Are you vegetarian/ vegan as well? I am neither, but found some vegan sites quite helpful esp when having people to dinner who have diet restrictions. Dhal (lentil curry) is yummy and totally vegan/dairy/wheat free. sb129
Porridge! (but not that yucky rice porridge, we had that in Korea and it was ) Or cornflakes. I like soy milk and yoghurt, not a big fan of rice milk but its OK on cereal. I think bran is OK, and nuts/ fruit. I am pretty sure you can eat rye bread- its nice toasted with tomato and avocado on it. Omelettes (without cheese of course!) are a good high protein breakfast.
shadowofman
I advocate a pre-agricultural diet which is also wheat and dairy free. Actually, grain free, not just wheat. Grains are excluded mostly due to an anti-nutrient called a lectin which is also found in many legumes, so these are excluded also. There are specific molecular reasons for the exclusions, but in a nut shell, elements in these substances block the regular metabolic function of nearly every human to various degrees. Eeyore79
You can get rice pasta or noodles, and make your usual pasta/noodle dishes with tomato sauce or whatever you normally make. You might have more success if you look for gluten free recipes, since gluten includes wheat. This site has a lot of great gluten free recipes on it, many of which also exclude dairy: http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/
Author kassy
Hey thanks everyone! Really useful. No I'm not vegan or vegitarian, this wheat free and dairy free is all a new to me. A friend went on it and feels amazing, I thought why not give it a try for a few months and see how it goes. I figure even if it isn't for me it will make me try new healthy food and hopefully I'll get inspired! Maybe I'll keep going, who knows!
