kiss_andmakeup
And contrary to the vegetarian claims, no bush people, extinct or extant, are vegetarian, but eat medium to large amounts of animal proteins and fats. I'm a vegetarian, and I've never heard anyone claim that cave men or "bush people" were vegetarians. I assumed it was a well-known fact that they hunted live prey. I also don't think that grains are the evil that people think they are...moderation, people! I love me some bagels! Edited July 11, 2010 by kiss_andmakeup
reddog4321
I'm a vegetarian, and I've never heard anyone claim that cave men or "bush people" were vegetarians. I assumed it was a well-known fact that they hunted live prey. I also don't think that grains are the evil that people think they are...moderation, people! I love me some bagels! It is one of the quintessential arguments for the political vegan movements, I see people online all the time spouting off how, because we have a lot of molars and our gastro-intestinal tract is blah blah blah, that means we are supposed to be vegetarian. I ate boatloads of bagels in my 20's and was very fit. By my 30's I noticed I gained some weight when eating too many carbs (much more weight and much quicker than if I over-ate fats/proteins). By my 40's it was even more apparent. Like I mentioned I dropped 30lbs in 2 months just from cutting out the carbs and despite having a diet that is/was over 60% fat. It is true, there are some people who eat lots of carbs their whole life and never get fat (they are usually the very small frame thin type). We are all different. But as a population, we eat less fat and much more carbs than 30 years ago but people have gotten a LOT fatter. Excess carbs, especially sugar and grains seem to be what is doing it. Every fat person I know indulges in carbs to the extreme. As far as grains go, itis hard to call them a "natural food" for us. Without some form of technology (grinding wheel) they are completely indigestible, some are even poisonous and/or contain antinutrients, chemicals which bind up vitamins and minerals and make them unavailable to the body. I will concede that all of this is current "theory" though.

Especialy when you think about the fact that humans were probably created from mostly scavanged meat proteins. I think Carbs/sugar are the major problem in todays society. I think we as a group need to get togather and make laws. Simple things like change the way it is advertised... and yes raise the price of certain foods while making other foods more affordable. donnamaybe
It also depends on what KIND of carbs you're ingesting. Simple carbs like highly processed grains (such as the white flour used in making nearly every bagel known to mankind) and sugars are definitely going to add to your waistline. Complex carbs like those found in beans, lentils, whole grains, and veggies (particularly raw) are VERY good for you, and you burn a lot of calories just processing them through your digestive system. flying
Larger women were in vogue at different periods in history like the ancient greek and roman BBW (where the concept came from), which incidently look nothing like the women who call themselves BBW today. The ancient greek and roman depictions show large truly curvy women who are muscular, strong, and sexy, but you'll notice, they have a thin waist relative to their hips, they do not have rolls of belly they got from eating too many carbs and sugar. Haha. "Larger" women have been in vogue a long time. Sometimes much larger. Not sure how much this has to do with carbs though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Willendorf

lotus118
I am 5'4", I go between 125-135 lbs, and my figure is 34D-27-37. I don't consider myself fit, skinny, athletic, average, thin, fat, chubby or obese. I usually tell people I am curvy because I feel like there is no other way to describe me. I have wide hips, a bigger butt and a large chest but my thighs, arms, waist are all average sized. I consider myself healthy, proportional and definitely have more of a womanly figure. So if that's considered "fat" so be it, but it is curvy to me.

donnamaybe
Yup, its an older semi-retired couple and every now and then they show up at my door with produce. Its awesome. There is NOTHING you can buy in any produce dept. that tastes as good as fresh garden veggies. My sweety and I are going to have a nice big garden next year! I'm so happy about that!!! Good for you!!! Isn't it great to have nice neighbors?

All of the above have bad effects on me, even the whole grain and legumes. Whole grains have same/similar glycemic load as refined grains. For me, they seem to cause inflammation, bloating, and insidious weight gain. If I binge on a box of whole wheat cereal, the next day I am like 10lbs heavier and bloated. If I binge on meat I might be a pound or two heavier and then I lose it within one day. But some people can handle the grains and beans without the weight gain I will concede. And if you keep the calories low, you would definitely be fine. I hit the weight training hard so not good for me to do low cal. Low carb just seems more forgiving when you overeat. Yeah, you can't overload on the grains. Binging isn't good, but you could eat boatloads of raw veggies. The upshot would be a day spent on the potty, and that's about it. That is a good point (although I enjoy raw meat like sushi, carpaccio,....). Chimps eat some raw meat along with their veggies and bugs, but only about 5-10% of their diet. We came along probably as scavengers, then maybe chasing larger predators off their kills. But clearly we came along to eat more meat than our chimp cousins. But what not one single other primate eats are grains and beans. That was only introduced to us in the last 10000 years after we figured out how to process them into digestible nutrients. So it seems suspicion should fall on that and not on meats that have been eaten for hundreds of thousands or even millions of years.
Author Green
bottom line. Yes science did create these modern problems. Men and women have become very fat. Women who are very fat try to sex it up with Curvy... which has been a sexy thing FOR LIKE EVER. But being fat does NOT make you curvy. In my opinion plum women LOSE curves. Modern science has created these women. Modern science also makes it posible for these women to survive. They survive through insulin shots, breathing machines at night, and pills/gastric bypass. Stop trying to sex up being fat. YOU ARE NOT CURVY. but really curvy means fat these days so oh well.

At some point, if it hasn't already, it will be completely converted from being a hot woman with a curvy figure to an obese blob and people will forget it was ever used as an adjective for an attractively built woman. People will joke about other people being "curvy" (e.g. no curvy person would fit in that chair! or "I went on a blond date and damnit, she was curvy"...). Then there will be a political issue with that word. It will become the "C-word" that you aren't supposed to use. Then I wonder what word gets sacrificed next.
reddog4321
Is the girl in my avatar curvy or fat? Obviously she is hot and curvy by the old, anatomically correct, version of the word. By the current version where curvy = morbidly obese, she isn't.
