FitChick
I wish dating websites had more options. I called myself athletic on one until a guy told me that athletic means flat chested in Boy Talk. Average these days means about 20 lbs. overweight. So I put thin, but I am not scrawny. I am slim and toned with curves -- a slim hourglass. I guess that is why current clear photos are so important. But there is only so much one can do before meeting someone online. For people who don't know who Jayne Mansfield was: http://www.jaynemansfield.com/ Note her tiny waist. She is thin but curvy and looks like most actresses today. Since she was married to a bodybuilder, I'm willing to bet she was also toned and strong. Edited May 24, 2010 by FitChick
marsle85
In online dating: curvy = obese a few extra pounds = morbidly obese I challenge anyone to find me a dating profile of a woman who describes herself as "curvy" that isn't at least 50 pounds overweight. I would define myself as "curvy," and I'm definitely not 50lbs overweight.
marsle85
Im not trolling. I, personally, am DISGUSTED by fat people... Like I actually hate them for no real reason. I accept that my level of disgust is way over the top and that my feelings about fat people are bordering on being a real issue for me... But what I said was true. Guys SETTLE for fat chicks. Im not saying that all of us prefer stick figures but I am saying that none of us prefer the "curvy" girl over the fit girl. Its the truth.... Well, in all cases except for the chubby chasers like I already mentioned. Now espec, did you have anything to say about the topic or are YOU just trolling? I think there are a LOT worse characteristics people settle for, believe me. A few pounds overweight isn't the WORST thing in the world. In fact, I'd prefer my guy to have a little extra, I want him to be able to throw me around.
Eeyore79
Fat women call themselves "curvy" because they feel bad about admitting that they're fat. On a dating site, "curvy" sounds better than "fat" anyway! I think of myself as curvy, but I have a US size six waist and I curve outwards by several inches around the hips. Men keep telling me I'm not curvy, I'm slim - so I guess the accepted definition of curvy=fat.

LucreziaBorgia
To me curvy describes a higher than average hip to waist ratio. Curvy is not stick thin with fake boobs and butt implants, nor is it a skinny girl with rounded off angles. Curvy is a woman who has a soft and natural and healthy hourglass figure: shoulders and hips about even, with a waist smaller than that. Weight doesn't play as much of a part as proportions do. Coke bottle shape = good. 40 oz bottle shape = bad Think: Crystal Renn, Christina Hendricks, Kate Winslet, etc. (though there is some debate as to whether Christina's huge boobs are real or not). I'd say the 'curvy' you are talking about may have come about as a backlash to the late 80's early 90's heroin chic waif look.

Oh man Kate Winslet was so hot in the reader...did she use a body double in any of those scenes? YES SHE IS CURVEY... but it just seems like that is not what most people mean when they say curvey... THEY REFER TO FAT.....
Ihavenoidea
I would define myself as "curvy," and I'm definitely not 50lbs overweight. I wouldnt call you "curvy". I would say you are normal.
carhill
There was a time when these two ladies (Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, in profile) were called 'voluptuous'. My, how things have changed. TBH, though not as 'stacked', my mom looked a lot like Jane Russell, which is why she got some ad modeling gigs during the 50's. 5'6" and 130 was curvy back then. Kate Winslet, a fave 'curvy' actress of mine, does not use body doubles AFAIK. What you see is what you get, and nicely
Pink Cupcakes
Whenever I see Christina Hendricks on MadMen, I think "chunky." Sorry. Scarlett Johannsen is curvy, but if she gains 5 or more pounds, she will be on the chunky side. Hope this helps!

Gold Pile
Women... Chubby chasers like "curvy"(read fat) chicks. They are the only ones who seem to truly like it and it IS a FETISH for them. No matter what anyone else tells you(especially other women) most men DONT LIKE any extra pounds... A lot of men SETTLE for it but they would certainly prefer skinny and attractive to "curvy"... There is NO SUCH THING as a Big Beautiful Woman(BBW). That is the truth no matter how many fat women tell you otherwise. Well spoke

In fact, I'd prefer my guy to have a little extra, I want him to be able to throw me around. It's extra muscle, not fat, that makes one stronger. Overweight certainly isn't the worst thing in the world but it is an unhealthly state and a sign of sloth/gluttony. I used to be overweight many, many years ago. I exercise and eat healthy to stay slim/fit/healthy.
tami-chan
When did Curvy start meaning fat? ...when someone who has access to the press/wide audience decided that we cannot call Fat women FAT, it is just not politically correct. I have no proof but I believe it started when Oprah became so powerful and nobody wanted to refer to her as FAT, instead they used the "curvy". As in, TV reporter: "Oprah appears a lot "curvier" than the last time she walked the red carpet wearing that beautiful, beaded Marchesa gown that took 6 months to make ! The truth: she looked like an elephant waltzing down the red carpet in a gown that had to be adjusted several times( in the 6 months) each time she had a fitting because she kept gaining weight! Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Selma Hayek, Kate Winslet- THOSE are real curvy women!

sagetalk
I would define myself as "curvy," and I'm definitely not 50lbs overweight. We don't have enough pictures of you to tell. You'll have to post more for an official verdict. I vote for one in a pink string bikini. It will give us the best opportunity to make sure we are accurately judging. Who else is with me on that? Pink Cupcakes
Sorry but Christina Hendricks is definitely chunky in my book, those pics included, and would look great 20 pounds thinner and certainly not too skinny by any means. I would be certain her BMI is in the overweight range. Sorry.
