photoshop
Is there any way to get good explanations of weight training without joining a gym??? A lot of the books aren't that simple. Seems like there isn't ONE real way to do it, since everybody's Body works differently. I'm 5'10" and used to weigh around 177 in my late teens/early twenties i wasn't in shape or solid just kind of chunky, no definition so i decided to get into excercising, Then I got down to 150 and looked really lean and I've stayed lean but now I'm 27 and I feel scrawny like Leo DiCaprio circa 1997 but I just wish I could add a little mass and defintion all around and look somewhat like say brad pitt a little, is that possible?? Anyone have any pointers?

There are MANY different ways, and none will work the same from person to person. It kind of depends on your body type (ecto, meso or endomorph) the genetics you get from your folks and than obviously diet and exercise. Bottom line - You can gain lean muscle mass. No doubt about it. Check out http://www.bodybuilding.com Good site with a ton of info on where you can start.

Samson
add a little mass and defintion all around and look somewhat like say brad pitt a little, is that possible?? I'm not sure what looking like a little Brad Pitt would be like, but wideawake (who by the way sounds like he's read Arnold's Encyclopedia; ie., endo, ecto, meso body types and the genetics that drive them?) is correct: There's only so much you can do with what you got. But, to answer the question IMHO, it would be much easier to tailor your workout routine to meet your goals and objectives at a gym with a good trainer because technique matters so much, and its almost impossible to decribe without someone actually showing it to you. You can waste a great deal of time and effort moving iron the wrong way.

scobro
without joining a gym??? This is your first problem to why you are skinny you need a gym:rolleyes: . Samson said it best go to a gym get a trainer to work with you and set up a program of some sorts with a lot of compound movements like deadlifts /bench /squats /clean and press. If you are a total beginner some movements are going too advanced but a good trainer will help you. Second... you can lift until the cows come home but if you don't eat to gain weight you will look like Leonard Deskinnio. Nutrition is 75% of how you look and you can eat to lean out and drop fat and you eat certain ways to bulk up find out this info before you step foot in a gym. Thirdly...Why would you want to have a body like Brad Pitts???? He is skinny except in Troy so if you want a Brad Pitt body lol go for the Troy look if you must.I would go more Edward Norton American History X llook if I was you more than Brad Pitt but whatever floats your boat.Nutrition + gym = a start. Push ups and sit ups at home + salad and fruit=Brad Pitt(except Troy) good luck to you its not easy.
