Complications?

I have been on here before and I am having a hard time with my current relationship. Its long distance as I live in Tucson and he lives in the Tempe/Mesa area...so its about a two hour drive back and forth to see each other. The problem this is the same guy that broke up with me and we have been off again and on again and this currently is our third time dating trying to get things right and work through all our past issues and problems. All of his friends which some are mutual friends of both of ours and some are not do not approve of him being with me because of our past problems and issues and even his parents don't want him to be with me. But, we both really love each other and want things to work and last between us and so we are doing our best....the only thing I am struggling with is the long distance and I will be going to college at a university and living in the dorms in the fall in August and he will be going to a university as well in the fall in August where he lives and I am having a hard time as it is with the distance so I am worreid about him telling people and his friends and family that we are dating. He hasnt told any of his friends or family because they all dont approve of us and would give him drama and I am worried. I would like for him to be comfortable telling people and for him not to care what other people think but he said he will tell people about us when the time is right and when he is ready....I need some advice or some comments on what to do in this situation...all i know is we both want this to work and love each other very much and we are trying to take it slow so its less drama for both of us. I just am hoping that he tells people before we go to college because then that way its clear to other people and i know everything will be a bit better and we dont have to hide as much. Please comment and give advice it would be greatly appreciated.
