How important is education in your SO?

Wait....you realize that school doesn't take 24 hours a day, right? Plus I'm not getting "through" anything, I love what I'm doing. It's like playing every day of the week.

When I'm not studying you can find me doing a myriad of wild things, like jumping out of planes, riding on the back of a dog sled in the arctic, checking out Angkor Wat, etc.

Money has never been my motivator, helping people is what makes me push myself. Money is actually last on my list of why education is important but you keep bringing it up like it matters. Hooray that I'll have a nice pay check but I really don't care. I've seen true poverty and I'm fine with only having what I need and donating the rest to charity.

GOOD I encourage everyone to go experience the world, problem is MOSt people don't and its curious how there are so many people who supposedly have, here on LS.

If you have then great.

You have the best of both worlds and and so do I, follow which one makes you the happiest.

I respect your education as much as the next guy, problem most people walk around with a chip on their shoulder like they are better than the next and thats how 90% of these posts come off as.

Your better than me because you have an "education" and I'm better than you because I'm climbing Mt Everest. We're all the same.

I wonder if you have stopped to consider that there are a few among us, that have experienced the world... no we weren't climbing mount Everest or Surfing off Waikiki, we were stuck in a hot dry hell, getting shot at, or in my case, making sure to the best of my ability nobody was going to die... sometimes I won, sometimes I lost. After two years of that, some people don't really think the world has much else to offer, they just want to go home, and live out the rest of their life in peace. Can you blame them?

As for me, I haven't had a real home in years. I'm getting through College on my GI Bill, and then I'm going away...

We just consider different things special, why can't you respect that.

Erm, I respect that just fine. You apparently don't.

I dont blame them, Ive been there myself, and for those few who have the horror of witnessing such things I encourage them to experience the world for those who can't.

Yes I have considered people here have these experiences, yet ironic that I have met more people here with Ivy League educations and have experienced the world than more people than I have met in RL.

Maybe there is a connection here :)

But I agree sure is a lot of talk of Ivy leagues on here, I called Vertex out on it and he never responded.

Here you go -- I even took it out of the frame for you and put it up in front of my username (my real name blocked out of course):

Now, where's your proof? You come across as a forum troll to an extent, and you've easily been the most belittling and incomprehensible guy in this thread. I have a hard time believing that you're as far ahead and as high up as you say you are based on your general attitude in this thread.

You neglect selection bias. This thread is naturally going to attract a higher concentration of people who care about education, as this is a thread debating the merits of education in a SO.

I can agree to this.

Oh in regards to your degree. Never heard of them. Can't say the University of Pennsyvalnia screams awesomeness but I suppose neither does Embry-Riddle.

I did look them up and it seems like a decent school. Still nothing to get all excited over.

Reminds me of I think Andy from "The Office" who always says, "I went to Cornell University. Ever heard of it?"

Thats cool , hope it does well for you.

Which ones would you like. As you know I dont have a degree as I had no reason to finish it, what do you want my resume, a list of employers, my current position and salary?

As I told Marsle Ill gladly PM you my list.

Funny how I am so belittling yet everyone seems to gang up on me because I say your degree isnt a big deal. I'm a troll because my opinion is different LOL.

Yes I am the only one here saying more power to ya, hope it works for you, whatever makes you happy.

I am happy for you Vertex I really am

I am more interested in your IT knowledge and expertise. I myself am a finance graduate, but I have a variety of hobbies on the side growing up. One of those hobbies includes CS/programming on top of IT experience.

I'd like to know what your position is, what type of work you do, what type of knowledge you utilize and what you expect of those you interview.

hahahaha U Penn nothing to get excited over? Decent? You smoking crack over there or just have the inability to admit that maybe you really have no idea what you're talking about. I'm going to assume that was some lame attempt at humor.

Embry Riddle screams nothing. Maybe a dead guy in China doesn't know U Penn is awesomeness but the rest of us do. It will do plenty well for him.

*Runs off and beats head on wall*.....I give up.

No, people are ganging up on you because your arguments are fairly outlandish. You're discrediting very difficult accomplishments as if they're completely worthless, while spouting off a lot of self-aggrandizing claims as if your own accomplishments are somehow superior multiple times over.

So, I'm calling you out, as it were. I'm asking you to put some teeth behind your claims, that's all.

Network Engineering, Network Administration, System Administration, Network Security, Project Managment take your pick.

Current position Sr. Network Administrator moving to Sr. Network Engineer for Boeing or Program Manager with IBM, which ever seems like a better fit.

I expect those I interview to have experience and knowledge of the tasks they are required to perform as well as experience working independantly or with a team from both a leadership and followership position.

I will PM you my current job requirments and you can tell me how you would measure up.

PM sent,

Everyone else is free to PM me. Otherwise we should probably let this thread Die.

I was really after more of a list of specific technical skills as opposed to broad, generalized topics, but I do have experience in every field you've listed except for "Change Management" ITSM, although not with as many years experience as with what you have listed for yourself in the other categories. How old are you?

PM sent of technical skills

Now take those requirments and apply it to leading project teams for new software capability development, engineering designs, and network layout and configuration.

Reply via PM so we arent bumping this thread, it needs to Die
