Yesterday I posed in a bikini for a photographer friend. Before we started, I pointed out my problem spot - my tummy. It has some access fat. It's not very obvious when standing, but bending or sitting, it pooches out. I wanted to make sure he avoided any poses that were unflattering.

Afterward, he said to me, "you have loose skin, not fat. There's a big difference."

Is there such a thing as loose skin or is it fat?

Loose skin may happen - usually after some dramatic weight loss.

I haven't had any dramatic weight loss. I gaind 50 pounds with both my pregnancies but the last one was 12 years ago. My weight has fluctuated at times by 25 pounds but I don't think that is enough to create loose skin.

It may also happen after pregnancy. Has this problem area existed since then or was it around before/came later?

I don't really know. I think any kind of pooch over the years I would have attributed to needing to lose a few pounds, in other words "fat." That's what my thinking has been until yesterday when he made that comment. I googled "loose skin" and their seems to be controversy as to whether there is such a thing.

Nope, natural births. I think it's fat, not much but hard to get rid of.

Sure, there's loose skin. It often comes as a result of losing weight and not having enough time and exercise to make it retract. I myself like to bite that--especially on the space just below the waist. It's kinda cute and useful. Some people have very pliable skin and no tone--making their arms look like there's hanging fat. That's not too nice to look at. But I can overlook most things like stretch marks and cellulite if the lady is lovable and has and an appealing kisser.

If you consider childbirth, it pushes your skin to its maximum capacity within a short period of time especially if you gain 50 lbs. Then, you again lose the weight in a hurry. Do this twice and it's not surprising that you would have some loose skin.

If it only pooches out a bit when you sit down, is it all that horrific? Doesn't sound like much to worry about.

Check out Jennifer Lopez in a bikini, post pregnancy:

What's your bf%?

I would say that unless you're really lean, your body has more excess fat than loose skin.

Loose skin actually droops rather than stick out like a pouch or a muffin top. So

I like your perspective. ;)

Thankfully, no stretch marks.
