How often do you weigh yourself?

I know everyone is different but I would like to take a poll:

 

How often do you get on the scale? And why?

I do it about every two weeks.

 

I'm trying to track my weight/muscle gain. If I didn't gain, I know that I didn't eat right in that time period.

Thanks for the responses.

 

A friend of mine told me it's problematic to weigh yourself often. I have been weighing myself every few days. She actually told me that it's horrible to do that! I do see some weight fluctuation (up a pound, down a pound). I found that when I weigh myself less frequently I gain without even realizing it. I just assume I'm the same weight...

Once a day, in the A.M... why... because it is sitting there on the floor right where I get dressed and I have this game to see if I can turn it on by touching it with my toe and put my shirt on before it is clear and reset to ready....

I win every morning.. then take my weight and go on to the pants..

I weigh myself every night I go to the gym, but I don't really pay much attention to it.

Do you actually weigh yourself at night? I did read an article that you should do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Apparently you can gain as much as 5 pounds throughout the day from food/drinks! So I think that could be decieving...

My weight will fluctuate around 5 pounds throughout the day...mainly from food and water weight...it's also important to try to use the same scale to weigh yourself...because it's the change in weight that matters, not the weight itself that you should monitor...so using different scales might give you different weights...

Daily...I've been on a diet and have lost 13 pounds.

 

I agree that it's good for dieting. Do you see weight fluctuation? Or is it a steady decline?

Oh, I agree!!! The scale at my gym if off by about 10 pounds (10 pounds less, I guess they want you to keep coming there to lose weight!) We bought a scale a few months ago and I shocked how much more I weighed! I am unsure which one is acturate actually..

Sometimes I weigh myself a couple of times a day (I have a scale in my bathroom) simply because it's interesting how much my weight fluctuates between morning and evening, and depending on what I eat.

 

My AM weight is almost always the same from one morning to the next. It's really the only one I keep track of, and since it's consistent, I'd know if I was putting on pounds!

I can easily tell if I'm gaining or losing at by the way my clothes fit, particularly my work pants, so I don't need the scale to tell me anything. I would think most women would be in tune to that by their clothes...they certainly notice when it's that time of the month and there's a change due to water retention, right? That's a small change, yet noticeable.

 

Besides, the scale only measures total weight, so it doesn't account for muscle/fat gains or losses, which is really what matters to me. And that's far more apparent by measuring inches, or looking in the mirror. Not that I measure inches, either.

 

So, that once or twice a year weigh in is just out of curiosity and typically shows a 2-3 pound fluctuation depending on if it's winter or summer.

That's very interesting Norajane. I actually used to do that (weigh a few times per year) but I noticed that I would gain weight without even realizing it! I mean I noticed a LITTLE, but then I would take pictures and I couldn't believe the difference!

 

I try to keep in mind that a few pounds, up and down, is normal and probably water but I also don't want to use that as an excuse to gain weight or be a higher weight.

Since I turned 40, my weight hasn't changed a lot. I find I have to work out much harder and eat much less in order to maintain a weight of under 130. I like to keep watch over it, so I don't go over 130.

 

My boobs have jumped 2 cup sizes in 8 months, even though I've only gained a few pounds! :eek:

Wow, that's strange. It may be due to hormones or body changes with getting older? Have you had any children? My aunt told me that after childbirth the breasts will sometimes change size, either get bigger or smaller.

 

I agree though that weighing yourself often helps motivate you to stay in a range.

Oh, it's totally hormones- I am 40!

 

I was responding to Nj saying that she relies on her clothes to tell her if she's gained or lost. When my shirts wouldn't button, I started thinking I had gained weight, but I hadn't- just my boobs growing:eek::(.

 

I think it's a good thing to keep on top of your weight- as long as it's not an obsessive thing, the makings of an eating disorder, or an eating disorder perpetuated.

Maybe several times a year:

Annual physical with doctor

Annual physical for work

When someone says "you've lost weight"

When someone says "You look great"

Almost every day.

 

I'm happiest when I'm around 116-117, but I can gain 5 lbs REALLY fast, so weighing myself keeps me in check. When I get over 120 lbs, I know it's time to eat more cleanly (not buying pints of ice cream) and to exercise more (meaning I should actually START exercising :p).

Normally, I weigh myself once every so often, relying on my clothing more than my scale.

 

Since I've given birth and need to get rid of the excess pregnancy fat, I weigh myself every few days. The good news is that I'm within two pounds of my prepregnancy weight! Now I just need to get my muscle tone back. :)

Mine are smaller. And droopier :(

 

I weight myself "officially" once a week, because I have been doing weight watchers to lose weight gained during pregnancy. Unofficially I weigh myself most days. It fluctuates, but the weigh in weight on Mondays has steadily been going down.

 

I am now within a few pounds of my pre-preg weight (finally!!) and its taken me nearly 9mths. (Lucky you TBF....I'm not jealous, I'm not I'm not!!;) )

Haha...sb, I know you're not jealous. If you were to see the condition my stomach muscles are in, you'd feel sorry for me! It's going to take months and months of pure pain, to get them to a reasonable level. :p

So I weighed myself this morning and I lost a pound overnight. I think that as long as the scale doesn't keep going up (which it has in the past!) I will be okay. I definately don't want to turn obsessive about the whole thing, Im trying to keep in mind that there will be some flunctuation.

 

It is a little curious/frustrating though when you've watched your diet for a day and worked out hard to gain 2 pounds!
