Yep...it's no fun sometimes...but as you do it longer, you get used to it...and make sure that you give yourself splurge days here and there to keep your mind in the game and prevent yourself from getting too discouraged...

Right..

hotgurl, why do you hate exercise? Did you just start working out? I know that it is ALWAYS hard to begin an exercise regimin because it's more difficult and you get more tired from being out of shape. The more you exercise, the more endurance you build, the better you feel afterwards. AND the more calories/fat you burn!!

I completely understand that you are frustrated. Have you lost any weight so far? If you have, build on that! It will keep you motivated to keep going.

well orginally I lost 30lbs. but I gained 12 back and have lost 9 of that. so 27?

I just fell out of exercise and have to get back into it. I start with walking.

I am being b!tchy and have pms so I am whinning today.

The exercise problem is more due to my hectic schedule and after being out the house for 11 hours it is hard to get moving I am just tired. I leave at 7am and get back at 6pm by than my family is starving so I make dinner right away we eat it is 7:30 mand I just want to relax.

Sometimes, especially when it comes to working out and dieting, more is not always better. Working out more will not necessarily make you lose weight faster. Cutting more calories out of your diet will not necessarily speed up the process.

The key is learning how to train and eat smarter. When you train, pick exercises that have high training economy value. Training economy has to do with how much of an effect you're getting for the amount of time your putting in. Things like sprints, compound lifts, bodyweight only circuits, and plyometrics have high training economy because you get a much greater effect for the amount of time you put into it.

I like going to the gym, but I like doing other things way more. I don't usually let my workouts go longer than 45 minutes to an hour (possibly even less, especially on conditioning only days, such as sprinting). Of course, this isn't an excuse to not work hard. During that small time period, you get in there and get it done. You don't read magazines, or play with your phone, or talk to people, or hang out watching TV. You get in there and get all of your planned sets/reps/and weights lifted. You get out there and run your 8, 40 yard sprints like you planned.

In the kitchen, ratcheting down your caloric intake might not be the answer. You may need more calories to feel good about training. What does your diet currently look like? What does Hotgurl typically eat in a day?

The last thing you want to do is say "ok, I'm going to work out 3 hours a day and shave another 200 calories from my diet". You won't be able to sustain it in the long term. Nobody can. This isn't to say that you won't have crappy days in the gym or days that you binge eat on bad food. Everybody has these days. However, you have to find a lifestyle that you can sustain.

Right now I am on weight watchers. The last two weeks I had a minimal loss .6 and this week nothing. I know why I spurlged last weekend at my dad's b-day party.

During the week I am consistant:

For breakfast: 1 egg omlete with 1oz cheese and 1/2-1 cup of veggies. either tomato , broccoli, spinach whatever is on hand.

Snack: 1/4 cup of hummus and 1cu baby carrots.

lunch 2 cups of salad with 1-2 ounces of chicken on top with light italian dressing 1 tbs.

snack non-fat greek yogurt with 1 tbs honey.

sometimes if I have a late day I will have an apple before dinner so I am not starving when I get home.

dinner: 3 0z salmon with spinach (it really any combo of lean meat and veggies)

1 glass of wine.

the weeknd I am all over the map depending on what I am doing.

I know I need to exercise and I know I will fell so much better. It is just taking that first step.

In my opinion, there's no way that you're eating enough... It looks like it's just barely enough to keep you going.

The macronutrient breakdown looks to be somewhat balanced, but I think that you need more fat and protein if you want to feel full and be able to be motivated to work out.

Natural peanut butter is a great source of both. So are whole eggs. Throwing the yolks away is one of the silliest food practices around.

You might want to try doing 2-3 eggs in the morning, as well as adding a couple tablespoons of natural peanut butter around lunch and prior to working out.

I really think that adding some fat is the key here. One of my favorite brands of natty PB is Adam's. You can get it at Wally World. If you have a whole foods or a vitamin cottage in your area, they sell Arrowhead Mills, which is also freakin' delicious. Damn, I'm apparently hungry now...

Heh, I wish I could do this...the gym turns into this crazy social hour for me every time I'm there...I remember going during at an irregular time when I didn't know anyone working out and I was freaking out...:laugh:

Must be tough being Mister Popular hahah.

I'm not saying that people have to look at the floor and avoid all eye contact, but it's always obvious which people are there to socialize and which ones are there to get their big on.

There are a couple of young ladies at my gym who are always there together "working out". Their workouts usually seem to consist of 1) talk to front desk kid for 25 minutes 2) giggle 3) go to assisted pull up machine. Set counterweight to highest setting. Shakily perform 5-6 reps. Giggle some more 4) Go talk to front desk kid for 10 minutes 5) get on elliptical machine and lazily plod along for 5-10 minutes 6) Grab 8 lb pink dumbbells, proceed to do some dumbbell overhead presses while giggling and complaining that "Ohmygawd, this is like, haarrrd, hhehehe". 7) Go and talk to/flirt with front desk kid, who at this point, has an extremely obvious "I DON'T CARRREEEE" look on his face.

Tman666, good posts.

I'm stuck there right now and I can't make myself eat more of the stuff I need to eat. Dropping weight is usually easy... I "started" two weeks ago, and I haven't lost any. My mind is in lose mode but my body wants more/better intake. I mixed up my routines because of my ankle injury. I've learned to flip the little switch in my head between cutting and gaining, but my workout changes along with it. I've increased my upper body workouts instead of cutting back as usual. It's one or the other. I don't know how to build muscle and drop weight.

I've hit a wall. The increase in weight training feels nice though, and I feel pretty good... other than feeling like a fatass, and having to limp around three or four days out of the week.

Dealing with injuries sucks no matter how you slice it. Your main focus should be to get better. Only after that will you be able to effectively train again.

Also, building muscle and dropping bodyfat can be done, but it is difficult. Sometimes, each one is best left to its own device.

If you weren't injured, I would suggest a routine consisting of bodyweight circuits, sprints, and weight training. However, it sounds like you're in a rut. Don't worry, it'll pass. Just do what your doc and PTs tell you to do and your recovery will be as swift as possible.

So is this literally what you eat everyday during the week?? If so, no wonder you're bored!! Why don't you switch it up a little? I would think that even though you're on weight watchers you could maintain the same points but with different food combos. Oatmeal & fruit for breakfast, homemade soup to get some veggies in at lunch, nuts for a snack, etc.

Since you are out of the house so much during the week, could you get a couple of longer/more intense workouts in on the weekend when you have more freetime? Then maybe two days during the week do like 30 minutes of exercise?

Yeah, I can't handle the injuries like I used to. That's the only part of getting older that I actually feel. The ankle took me out of an active life years ago. Settled in and got really fat. Like 290lbs fat at one time. I think I walked around at 215-225lbs before that, and could drop to 205lbs pretty quickly. I got back on track about a year and a half or so ago, and now I bounce around the 230lb mark most of the time. My goal is to get back where I can make that 205lb cut again. Won't ever happen, especially with increased weight training and no real desire to be that small, but it was a good motivator to get me going.

Sometimes I vary my diet. But I really like yogurt and the omlete keeps me full.

I vary my snakc and dinner. But usually it is a lean meat and veggies.

This weekend is supposed to be nice so hopefully I will get in some exercise. swimming and perhaps a hike.

the longer workout on the weekend and shorter ones during the week is a good idea.

I think frankly I am mostly burnt out with the long workday. I don't even take lunch! and am so exhausted. I was also pmsing bad when I wrote this.

I have one more week of this stupid schedule and than I am back to a 9 hour day. (incuding commute)

I did lose 1 lb this week so that is good. But I just need to motivate my butt to exercise even starting to walk. It helps with my stress which is high right now.

My two favorite weekend exercises! Actually, I'm terrible at exercising on the weekends and that is when I indulge in lots of food & drinks so I SHOULD be doing something! But swimming or hiking are pretty much the only exercises I'm likely to get on a weekend. Swimming is good cause I can get a tan while I work out! :D

actaully I kinda hate hiking but my husband love it so I try. I hate it just because it is hard for me. I figure if I do it enough it will be easier.

Oh yeah, I get frustrated sometimes when I can't keep up with my boyfriend, but I enjoy it anyway because it feels like a whole body workout, and we usually hike in really beautiful places. The scenery can be a nice distraction! Only thing is we got into a habit of stopping off at a Mexican restaurant after our hikes this winter, so that kind of negated any of the benefit!! And now it's just too hot out (I live in Arizona). But it definitely gets easier & more enjoyable the more you do it.

Ah, but just think of the rewards. Your self esteem will be up, you'll fit into a wider range of outfits pleasingly, you'll walk around with your head a little higher and a spring more in your step. My suggestion is that you consciously make a commitment to view "pleasure eating" as a form of drug addiction. Think of food merely as functional and catch yourself when you drift into pining for some decadent desert or something. I have a weight problem too. The only things that work for me are that attitude I expressed above or a crush on somebody that makes me goal oriented. The prescription is always the same, if you've gained weight in the proportions that make it a long slog to get rid of, it's all about your mental orientation to food. If you eat by plan and avoid obsessing about taste, you will consume far less calories. The goal should hang out there in front of you because you know it's what you really want. Good luck.
