davisc123
Church of the Broken Hearted If hate is black and love is white Then doubt's a shade of grey When everything that made it right Is every why it's wrong to stay It hurts you to believe your mind And time is ages You're back in here again Cos here's where you came in It's a lonely road You've got to know the way to turn Welcome home to the church of the broken hearted You're back where you belong And the songs they play are so right For that broken hearted time of your life The pain is born of fear and doubt And it eats inside Emotions that come teaming out Are all the ones you tried to hide And late at nights the seizure starts And stays till morning The demons that they send Say the weekend ain't your friend It's a lonely road But you've got company http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS6EIhVnfTQ

TheUnthoughtKnown
This is where I come in: In my circle of friends I'm now infamous for playing sad, lonely, brokenhearted songs. Here are a few of my favs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0CP9RVvm_4 ^ IMO this is one of the greatest brokenhearted love songs ever. Period. The refrain at the end makes me cry I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky but why, why, WHY can't it be mine...? ^ This is a Scottish band called Frightened Rabbit. Tbh, this is only one song of about 10 at least that I could post here. Their album The Midnight Organ Fight is devoted entirely to the lead singer Scott Hutchinson's break-up with his girlfriend. Apparently he had considered committing suicide but instead channeled those feelings into a plethora of amazing, close-to-the-bone songs which really touch you. His voice is broken, hurting and very, very honest. I'd recommend this band, and that particular album to anyone suffering through a break-up. God knows they've helped me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLzBGN1GQGs ^ This is a William Fitzsimmons song called You Still Hurt Me, and it's a very tender, emotional song. Apparently he had a lot of problems with drink, and other things, and he cheated on his wife. They broke up and he wrote an album (of which this song is on) about his feelings towards her, the break up and how remorseful he is. This song deals particularly with how his wife's attitude to the break-up hurt him a lot and he's struggled to deal with it. ^ This is a song called Walk Away by Ben Harper. Just a straightforward, brokenhearted song about missing the one you love, but having to deal with it. ^ I could be biased about this, I'm not sure. The day my ex broke up with me I was driving on the motorway and this song came on. It hit me so hard, and I became addicted to it. It's called The Winter Winds by Mumford & Sons, and it's great! Their whole album, Sigh No More, is really excellent. ^ Now this is a really sad song by Colin Hay called I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You. And it won't be for everyone, but it did help me coz I like to embrace those emotions and that heartache, rather than ignore it. It's a powerful feeling when you decide to invest in that emotion instead of run from it, and I got that from this song. There's more, but I'll leave you with this just now EDIT: I know the thread asked for "coping songs" and these songs are about heartbreak and sadness etc, but to me, these songs are how I coped. Because, just like this site, it helps to know what you're going through is not unusual, or different than anyone else's experiences. We're all in the same boat, so we've got to help each other row, and these songs definitely helped me realise that. Edited August 9, 2010 by TheUnthoughtKnown
Thierro
Keep them coming I especially like the acoustic version ‘Love drunk’- Boys like girls. And thanks for the William Fitzsimmons recommendation; Beautiful. Edited August 9, 2010 by Thierro
TheUnthoughtKnown
Okay boys and girls more songs, coz I feel like that guy in High Fidelity who compiles lists! There's a fire started in me now!! ^ This is song called Your Sweet Voice by The Reindeer Section. It's one of Gary Lightbody's side bands. I think Gary Lightbody is possibly one of the greatest broken hearted lyricists there is. Everything he does is just so. ^ To prove my point, this is a song excellently titled Held In The Arms Of Your Words, from another of Gary's side projects called Tired Pony. This song is so lovely! ^^ ^ This is a song called Ghosts, by the ever fantastic Laura Marling. Apparently this was written when she was 17, which boggles the mind that such a young girl seems so well informed about heartbreak...and quite tragic as well. ^ This is a song called Sex Is For Losers by Three Blind Wolves. Its very folksy, but I love the energy and emotion thats put into the vocals!
