This is where I come in: In my circle of friends I'm now infamous for playing sad, lonely, brokenhearted songs. Here are a few of my favs:

^ IMO this is one of the greatest brokenhearted love songs ever. Period. The refrain at the end makes me cry

I came here to post Pearl Jam's Black. Vedder's lyrics are just so emotional and incredible.

 

The whole "Ten" album is amazing.

This song is IMO one of the saddest piano pieces for a film I've ever heard.

 

Every time I listen to it, I tear up a little bit. It reminds you of the good memories of your relationship and even your youth and you can't help but smile.

^ John Mayer - Say. I don't usually like John Mayer, though I can't say I've heard a lot of his stuff. I heard this song at the beginning of the new Karate Kid film. Its a really good song, and it really did move me!

This isn't a song that you'd appreciate listening to the day after you break up. This is best heard a few months, years, whatever down the road. My problem is that I get angry thinking about all the time I wasted on him and who I could have met during that time. But this song helps me realize that I shouldn't have any regrets and that I did indeed learn something from the relationship, and to be happy that it's over.

Space Bound by Eminem..I know, not the first place you'd look, but this song is probably his most powerful (emotionally) song off Recovery

 

I agree. I listened to this a lot post-breakup a month ago... finally a love song from Eminem! and he delivers with strong emotion as always.
