shlee
We're starting to look at engagements rings. This isn't something I've ever thought about before and I have no idea what I want, except that I prefer to make this purchase through an independent jeweler. I don't have any idea how to go about finding one, however. That sounds a little silly I suppose, but when I did an online search for independent jewelers in my area, nothing useful came up. Any tips?
Stung
I'm with you, I wanted an independent store with artisans who would help me design my own ring, not something mass-produced. I was lucky enough to live in an area chock-full of those, however. If there's really nothing in your area, for now concentrate on online ring searches, get an idea of what you like. Also check for estate sales and auctions in your area. If I were you I'd consider planning a weekend trip away with your bf/fiance. Find a city with a high concentration of independent jewelers and go there. Research the jewelers first online so you know which ones you're likely to like best, so you don't spend ALL weekend dragging the poor guy to jewelry stores. And make sure it's somewhere driveable, cause you're going to have to go back there if you pick it up at a later date or need them to make any changes to the size/design etc.
