whats a soulmate

Recommended Posts

A soul mate is a delusion of the mind, in my opinion.

It's the notion that you are so compatible with someone that you wouldn't ever be able to acheive such compatibility with anyone else. It's often used by people who suffer heartbreak to justify their lack of desire to 'get back in the game'.

I really disagree with any "meant for eachother", "soul mate", "life force" type of distinctions. I don't care for the idea of pretending that relationships don't require work, which is often the connotation of such a distinction.

Frankly, it depends how spiritual you are, how you define soulmate. Some believe that we live through various lives, before our soul is ready to move on to another plane. There is the belief that the same groups of souls are often connected in those different earthly lives....they are soulmates. Sometimes there is a particular soul which connects strongly with another, and those two souls may be together in many lifetimes.

Soulmate is often a romantic delusion, as Dyer points out, however it is a term I do believe holds some weight. I am a spiritual person though. And soulmate relationships still require an immense amount of work...sometimes soulmates are not even able to spend this lifetime together, for whatever reason.

A soulmate in a generic sense is often seen as someone with whom you share a strong bond, or connection and chemistry, a spiritual connection also, with similar values and so on.

I believe I am with my soulmate, however I do not believe it in the sense that many might view it. I believe we have been together before this life.

Now, if that's too out there for some of you, so be it. These are just my personal beliefs.

I believe in soulmates, as well as I think they arent secluded to just being a spouse, lover etc... I think they can be a best friend, a relative, a faithful dog/cat etc..... and its someone who uplifts you not only spiritually but lovingly. As well as I believe a person can have more than one soulmate, like a person can have more than one best friend.

I do not believe so, because the relationship between two people can change in the different lives. However, there is often an inner knowing or recognition of that soul, in whatever body it is residing. I have listened to talks on the subject, and that is what is usually conveyed.

I have 4 people i would call my 'best friends', but only one of them i would call my 'soul mate'. We connect on a level deeper than interests, hobbies, shared time and shared friends. We have an understanding of eachother that i haven't found with anyone else. We both acknowledge this, but don't let it restrain us, we are both very different but something ties us together.

With us, everything is out in the open and able to be spoken about/discussed. There is not one aspect of awkwardness between us, we are on a very equal level mentally and emotionally. I can go for weeks without talking to her and it still have the same feeling when we end up catching up.

I dream of meeting a male with whom i have the same connection one day.

I agree with Thinkalot.... I also believe each person has a different soul, for example an ex of mine whom was younger than me very wild, spontaneous, wreckless, and full of an extreme energy, seemed extremely wiser than his years, as well had lived what I consider a far more fulfilling life more than most people I know, I beleive he has an old soul.... if I could explain fully on here I would... but i cant.... confused? LOL

I know what you mean lost...some people have definately had more lifetimes and learned more lessons than others! I find the subject fascinating actually.

I've been told some interesting things about the connection between my partner and I.

Soulmates do exist. Obviously I believe this. You need to go through many lifetimes and lessons before your soul is ready to move on. When difficult things happen, they happen to teach you something. Often you can find a positive in the negatives, and this can help you get through some tough times.

So relationships are some sort of nirvana-esque endowment from heaven? A relationship is either your "soul mate" or it's predestined to doom, with the sole intent of teaching you a lesson? I don't buy it.

It's a word in this particular decade used to describe someone who you THINK is perfect for you.

....key word: THINK.......

dyer you dont meet people by chance... if that was the case you could be with anyone.... to me... you meet people for a specific reason... whether it be to learn something or experience something, it dont have to be a lesson but even a mere chain reaction......

Dyermaker- Not at all. Soulmates are those with whom you have had a connection in other lives. They are not simply your romantic partner, but can be other people in your life whom you are very close to. No relationship is destined to fail. You may indeed happily marry someone who is not your 'soulmate'.

And if you are with a 'soulmate" that does not mean you are destined to succeed.

6 billion people on this planet; what are the odds that you'd find the ONE person meant for you? If soul mates exist, there are multiple. If you lived it Latvia, you'd eventually find your Latvian soulmate... in India? Indian soulmate! America?! American soulmate. Believe it or not there, in fact, are MANY people who you can have an extremely deep connection with on this planet that can give you intimate love on multiple levels.

You can most definitely meet people by chance, that is, unless you want to delve into the menagerie of arguments deriving from the concept of causality...

i'm agreeing with angel here. a soulmate doesn't have to be a person u r romantically involved with. i believe soulmates r those individuals that u feel a deep connection with. they r people who's soul u r able to bond with. we may have many or no soulmates in our lifetime. they can be friends and/or lovers. in addition, just because they r soulmates does not mean they will be destined (assured) to remain together. people determine their own destinies. and, all relationships require work regardless how well your soul (heart, mind, etc) connects. that's a given. whether or not u believe in a soulmate is really determined on what your definition of soulmate is.

I agree completely.

I believe that my soul mate is a woman. Nothing sexual about it. We are perfectly suited. But it's not going to stop me from finding a man to marry and live happily ever after with.

I have been pondering the idea of soulmates lately and, last evening, came upon a site where Richard Bach (author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull and many other works) said 'There's a learning connection that exists between those two souls' in describing what constitutes a 'soulmate'.
