Meaning of Life

Recommended Posts

hey...not sure has anyone posted similar thread before..i just go ahead and pop it in.

Recently, I have a friend who became very pessistmic and even thinking of suicide. He has been trying to understand what is life. All these years, he always wanted a beautiful wife + 2 lovely kids (he got divorced last year and unattached now). But he seemed like cannot find one he loves and share same interest. So, he started to doubt what is life.

Just now, he called me and told me his understanding of life. Human beings are just outer shells without any soul. We are trying to survive on the world. Life became meaningful after we instilled substances into it. He also raised the issue that he does not believe in re-carnation......when people dies, their forces just disappear into the air. However, I kind of believe in previous life and next life....though we cannot have any insight at all.

Because of my divorce problems, I started to understand to love myself even more. Treat myself better. Once think of anything, just do it....Anything which can make me happy, I will go ahead and do it. This is not my old self My present meaning of life is "Make myself Happy".

anyone care to share their opinions on "what is life?"

just trying to find out views of others.

Actually, life is really nothing....just make the best of it....live to the fullest.

We are on earth for a living.....dies and vanish into thin air...maybe re-carnated into other form of lives.

life is a brief existence - a starburst of energy on a planet - then it is over. There is no more "meaning" to it then that. There is no reason or motive. Cause and effect is all. Nothing before and nothing after. Sentient is a sentient does bay-bee! :p

That's how I see it.

Cause and effect is all

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I personally have a problem with the cause and effect theory. It's the dominant line of human thinking nowadays, but there is one large inconsistency in the whole theory. You can't point out a primary cause without it being an effect of another. Ad infinitum.

life is about taken the gifts you've been given and putting them to use for the greater good of those around you.

for me, it's about taking the love I have received and sharing it (in different ways, as the situation warrants). it just don't get better than that ...

If I have to decide between being just worm food or a spiritual higher being...

I'll choose spiritual higher being...

There are just more than a few coincidences in life to be just evolutionary. Just the eyeball alone is the most awesome creation ever. And that's just one tiny thing.

The meaning of life is "Eat your vegtables and don't kick small dogs"

Life has a special meaning for everybody, depends on religion mostly.

I agree. I think life is circular (not to be confused with the Lion King's 'Circle of Life') ;) Everything is cause and effect. If you believe in it, the big bang caused the existence of the planet and all subsequent lifeforms. But what caused the big bang?

I don't subscribe to a point-of-origin theory without it also being an effect of something else. :)

I think that the meaning of life is that there is no meaning! Maybe the meaning is the search itself.

It always amuses Me when human beings contemplate the meaning of life. Life is like the Internet. If you don't do anything with it, it has no meaning. If you use it for good, you get a lot out of it. If you use it for bad, you are punished with bad or broken relationships or jail time.

Yes, I know you've heard that life is what you make it. What you were told was right. You not only have a free will to do as you please but you also have a free will to think as you please. There is no more meaning to life than exactly how you live it, the experiences you have. You can have good experiences or bad ones.

There is no particular purpose for anything. The universe was rather a cosmic accident that turned out rather well. There's an awful lot of clutter out there that needs to be cleaned up but it's going to take Me a while because so many of the objects are still too hot to handle. Meanwhile, you are afforded a nice ride around the sun every 365 days. Enjoy it. If you want to find meaning just contemplating the meaning, that's OK but if you do so you're likely to waste a lot of great time and miss episodes of some of My favorite TV programs.

If you were living life to the fullest and making every minute count, you wouldn't be thinking about the meaning of life because it would be full of meaning. There would be nothing to think about.

So the next time you start thinking about life, stop yourself in your tracks and just know you must not be living it right. Change your thoughts to making life worthwhile for yourself and others.

Now, think about the meaning of death. In that, you will understand a whole lot more about the meaning of life. Dead people have passed the deadline for making meaning for themselves.

First midgets, now food!

God has much more to accomplish of cosmic importance--like setting me up on a hot date this weekend--than answer tiresome food and midget questions.

So, meanon and kev, your answers will just have to wait. :)

Can you help me with this girl I know...

Help you? I gave women a mind of their own and I stay out of their business. Everytime I try to understand them, I get frustrated. But that's the part that's interesting. If men didn't need help with women it would be no fun. Some things are better left alone, and women's minds are one of them.

What's the deal with midgets? Did someone dare you to make them or something?

I never do anything on a dare. Midgets were made smaller so average people could appreciate their height more and not be so jealous of tall people. We needed more short order cooks. I also had to make an entire cast of Munchkins for the "Wizard of Oz" and midgets were my only alternative. They're nice people, very entertaining and most of them never have to worry about employment. While other people are in the soup lines, the midgets are making the big bucks in the sideshows and on the midway.

How come all the nicest food is so fattening? Couldn't you have made veg tastier?

The nicest foods were never fattening UNTIL the past 100 years or so. Who would have ever guessed Hershey, Pa. would pop up and start knocking out all that chocolate? Who would have ever guessed that people would have found ways to make ice cream and all kinds of other deserts with healthy, refreshing cows milk. I made cows milk for baby cows and look what happened. Hey, I make human milk for human babies and I see posts on this forum about men wanting to get milk from their wives and girlfriends. What a concept.

Vegetables and fruits used to be the most tasty things on the planet, for millions of years. Monkeys still thrive on bananas everyday and seem to be in heaven. People get bored with everything way too fast. I came up with the obesity epidemic so people would start being afraid for their lives and stop biggy sizing everything and start eating right. It's full circle. Once people realize that the fat stuff will kill them, the veggies will taste really good to them.

God, did Janet and Justin do that boob thing on purpose?

Yep. There's no business like show business. You don't think Janet had that pastie on because she liked the feel of it. But she got lots of publicity. Sibling rivalry it's called. She was jealous that her brother, Michael, was getting so much press. Janet will be OK. Justin was jealous of all the publicity his ex, Britney, got after kissing Madonna on the lips so he got something out of it too. People are complicated. I'm still trying to figure them out and I'm the one who made them. Maybe that free will thing I put into them was a mistake.

Can you fix it so I am not always 5 hours ahead of my American friends and hence permanently knackered?

Just set your clock five hours backward. I don't have a clock myself. There is no time where I'm concerned. I never understood much about clocks. It seems only a few minutes ago I created all this. When you live forever it's best you don't have a sense of time. If people didn't have time concerns either, they'd be lots happier. It seems only a few moments ago I was trying to save the dinosaurs.
