How many approaches of psychiatry are there?

And which ones are the most effective?

Wouldn't a good (if not best approach) be to ask what the patient wants, and simply give it to him/her?

The only criteria would be:

- Would getting what s/he wants be beneficial for his/her long term emotional wellbeing?

- Would getting what s/he wants be feasible or practicable?

- Would getting what s/he wants lead to harming other, or the patient themselves?

- Would getting what s/he wants be consistent with the patient's own personality/mindset?

By the by, my own definition of mental health is about coping skills, positive thinking, and seeking the joy out of life, no matter what somebody life circumstances are. A content/happy person is not in my mind a mentally unhealthy one. Psychiatry should drop the crap about social norms or "normal" behaviour. This is way too subjective for scientific analysis.
