Fantasia and alienation of affection

Recommended Posts

:eek:come on now...not Ruben. :D:Dnot a fan of AI all. But I do enjoy Ruben's gospel music. He has been quite successful at it. I do like Kelly Clarkson's music too. :)

My wife used to make me sit through that crap. I remember the year that Ruben was on. I couldn't stand to watch the guy because he was out of breath and seemed like he was about to collapse after every performance. Him and Gay Aiken looked like the number ten when they stood next to each other.

In the constellation of RIAA does matter. Off the topic but Shakira was an international superstar who had sold millions of records yet was not recognized as such till she did a crossover album tracked in the American market BMI, ASCAP, SESCA, RIAA, etc... So to artist like Shakira america is the center of the universe that placed her in Forbes as the 4th highest paid entertainer. :p

It's funny you mention this Mimolicious... when I was studying abroad in Madrid in college, Shakira was everywhere... I was like, wow, this girl is like the Spanish Alanis Morrissette (who was really big, but starting to fade in popularity, at the time) except I liked her even better (I liked Alanis... at the time I was totally in the Alanis/Shakira age group). I told all my friends back home that they had to hear this pop singer, she was awesome... and they ignored me. After I returned home Shakira blew up in the US and everyone was like, "wow this girl rocks" and I was like, awww man, I found her first and no one believed me! And as you said she blew up big in terms of money and fame once she crossed over into the US market (like Selena...) and I like you believe she considers her success and popularity in the US to be what made her so famous. (For the record I still like her okay but I love her original Spanish stuff much better than her songs that are in English).

I think that for better or worse American pop culture really does rule the world. I traveled all over in high school and college and everyone was always so interested in American musicians, actors, athletes.... anything American pop culture. (They other loved it or they hated it). Once I was in Luxembourg and these teenagers kept asking me if I knew Michael Jordan and if I had met him. Then they proceeded to ask about Michael Jackson and then Jennifer Lopez. It is all they wanted to talk to me about! They seriously thought I knew these celebrities just because I was American. And when I was in Uganda I visited remote villages where kids lined up to get our autographs and take a "snap" (picture) with us just because we were American... and they would tell us to go back and put their pictures in the movies so they could be famous and move to America.

I don't think this is a pretty picture but it has been my experience. So yes, based on my experience I firmly believe that American pop culture is the center of the universe, like it or not.

He got married and dropped a ton of weight. I never got the AI hype honestly. And Fantasia isn't that great a singer to me...but then my tastes are fairly eclectic.

When it comes to making a superstar into an " International Power House", yes. The record shows it look at Ricki Martin and Enrique Iglesias too. Amy Whinehouse was another artist that regardless of her populatity in Europe, she didn't boom in record sales, air play and nominations till she entered the American Market. Who are the most gross selling, sold out concerts and mega stars world wide? Madonna, MJ, Beyonce, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Black Eye Peas...

Music wise when it comes to sales the US market value is 40%, Japan follows. Country music is the top Genre, Mexican Regional and Pop moved up thanks to Lady Gaga. Believe it or not numbers speak volumes when it comes to culture. Someone's buying!

Did you ever see Oprah's special when she built the school in Africa? When the little girls asked her "Are you from America? Have you ever heard of Britney Spears? We love Britney Spears?" Oprah, had tears in her eyes and said something like how she was amazed that they were so into Britney Spears, yet had no idea of who they were standing in front of. They had no idea of who Oprah Winfrey was but they knew Britney!

Anyway, back to the Fantasia issue (before LS patrol comes barging) Her accuser may stand a chance to win, would she actually get any funds from it, maybe not. As far as I can remember, she didn't go into bankruptcy, and her house was not foreclosed. I highly doubt she lives from paycheck to paycheck, this is not the way the record industry works. Yes, she is not banking it like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, they are in different genres. Not exactly R&B and Gospel.

Yes, Gay Aiken. What's wrong with pointing out that he is gay?

I don't dislike him because he is gay, I dislike him because he's a little douche.

Here's how scummy Fantasia really is....

http://www.tmz.com/2010/08/13/fantasia-barrino-antwaun-cook-photo-affair-hospital-overdose/

Fantasia Barrino was spotted outside her North Carolina home yesterday -- alongside the married man who she allegedly had an "adulterous affair" with ... but the two weren't alone.

The two reconnected just one day after Fantasia was released from the hospital ... following an aspirinoverdose.

But here's the rub -- the emotional rendezvous was all caught on tape by a camera crew that was clearly working with Fantasia and Antwaun Cook ... possibly for her reality show.

'nuff said.

What is with these women, can't they find a single man? I am also surprised at LeAnn Rimes. I just don't get it!
YEap, LeAnne and Alicia Keys too. Don't get it...

Look at Kelsey Grammer, he's knocked up Kayte Walsh and he's not even divorced yet from his wife of 13 years!

But if you think Camille is ballistic I bet Fantasia's lawyer is beside himself now since Fantasia and MM Antwaun Cook are now exploiting their affair in front of a camera crew THEY EMPLOYED! And DAMN... she just got out of the hospital YESTERDAY!

They're all really creepy IMHO.

Ya...It was Greg Norman the golfer... they were married a grand total of only 15 months after leaving both their longtime spouses.
