These damn lovehandles!!

Recommended Posts

Someone please tell me how to burn the love handle area....I do cardio 5 times a week for about an hour each time (depending on my 12mo daughter) and I just cant seem to loose it...I had to have a c-section with her and a year after I still feel like I have a floatation device...:(

This 'fat' can take anything up to 3 years to fall off.

Women are supposed to have a higher amount of fat round the hips anyway.

It's Biology.

It's designed to build in such a way as to support the pelvic girdle during pregnancy and menopause.

Be warned - unless you're wealthy enough (and have plenty of time on your hands) to work with a personal trainer three hours a day - you may never actually shift it all.

Your cardio routine needs to be modified a bit...instead of 5 hour long sessions, change up two of those sessions to 20 minute sessions at MUCH higher intensity...

You might also want to add a weight training routine to your fitness regimen...it's a matter of lowering your body's overall body fat levels...as TaraMaiden said, women are physiologically different from men and store fat in different places...so in order to "spot reduce," you need to reduce everywhere...

Cardio is fine. But you didn't mention your calorie intake, eating patterns, etc. You must be preserving your weight by something wrapped up therein if you are doing enough exercise to expect to lose weight. Do you plan meals out for at least several days with max nutrition and least empty calories and execute those plans--with no impulsive pleasure eating allowed? Are you knowledgeble at all of metabolics and the order in which to consume proteins, carbs and veggies to best sustain a burning metabolism that creates less pangs of hunger and pre-occupation with food? "Love handles" are not a bad thing to me, but are you under-characterizing your weight reality?

Perhaps you should just take an inventory of these things if you haven't already and then seek information on how optimize metabolism. But don't fall for these mass market food programs which provide means to pleasure eat only in smaller portions of with sugar substitutes. In my experience with personal recurrent obesity, it's a question of defeating the pleasure demon--the one which always seems to be ready to take over and mislead me toward eating what I like when I like it. Because I am predisposed to this pattern, I have to accept that eating is simply a matter of function and not a pleasure. The demon seems to fall half asleep after I sustain a renewed commitment to what I know to be fact for me: deflect all temptations by not watching commercial TV or cooking shows which show everyone chowing down pleasure items with no apparent consequence, making meals for three days at least at a time, drink lots of water, and start to see the rewards as esteem boosts and ego strokes from compliments from others once you've attained the results of your investment in an objective food life pattern. Good luck (and leave a little to grab on to :p).

Running takes mine away..I noticed they decreased more when I started running on an incline.

What kind of cardio do you do? What I have found is that it is a "special" kind of cardio that burns fat on your body (tailored to you). You have to find out what that is.

I used to do the elliptical for about 2 years...it did nothing for my upper body so I've started the bike in the past month..it seems more intense..so I know I'm getting better cardio..

It really does depend on the type of cardio, the intensity, and how long you do it.

The eliptical does nothing for me either, it actually makes me GAIN weight. Running is the only thing that will ever take weight off and keep it off.
