I've been toying with the idea of removing hair on my upper lip (it's not that visible but I hate having to go for threading every few weeks) permanently and laser is the way to go.

Has anyone had this done? What was your experience? Is is painful? Worth the pain?!

For upper lip hair removal, it takes about 15 minutes so I reckon that's nothing compared to removing hair on arms or legs :o

Laser hair removal isn't too popular where I come from but now that I've moved to another country, it seems pretty popular here. I don't know anyone - yet - that has gone this route. I've heard horror stories then again, I have no idea how far the truth is on those stories....

I haven't had it done personally, but it is extremely common in my area. Two of my good friends absolutely swear by it, they both had it done in their arm pits.

I think you should go for it, find a good spa that does it and go for it.

Yes, I have had this treatment. It does hurt a bit but only in the most sensitive areas like directly under the nose (centre of upper lip). It does work and has reduced the amount of hair I get.

But, some years ago, I got a home electrolysis kit which I actually tried on part of my leg. I can't remember why I stopped using this but I think it wasn't easy to reach. I didn't use it on my upper lip (again, I can't remember why but I think it was difficult to do by myself). I still have a bare patch on my leg where I did the electrolysis and this is literally about 20 years later! I do feel that the laser (pulsed light) treatment has worked and reduced the hair, but quite honestly I think electrolysis might be more effective and reliable long term.

I might have to go and have more treatment and I think I'd go for electrolysis this time for a longer-lasting result. I think a beauty salon would have more experience of doing this than I did, better equipment, lighting and magnifiers so they could see what they were doing. It's also much cheaper!

Hope that helps.

Yes, my friends swear by it too but hardly have any story to share with me :o

Thanks!

How much did the electrolysis kit cost you? That sounds like a whole lot better, yes?

I will do a search on electrolysis too. I don't think they have are familiar with that over here. Then again, I'm pretty new in this country and town so will have to do some research before I decide on something. Thanks for the info!

laser hair removal does not work for everyone... did not work for me  dissapointing after the expense,

and i was apparently the "ideal candidate" for the procedure. went to american laser centers, so going to a scam place was defiantly not the issue, just do not be dissapointed if it does not take.

So I was told. Sorry it didn't work for you.

The beautician I met told me the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal - one takes longer than the other in terms of sessions. I will only be doing a small part of me so both will work just fine with me but hey, you just never know, right? :(

Ive had it done lots of places including my underarms which is the best. I have dark hair so shaving still left a shadow from the roots beneath the skin. Now its just skin all the time.

Laser removal usually involves 3 visits for one area. The upper lip is the cheapest and most common area to do. Most salons will offer an intoductory package for that spot at a very low rate. They know you will be so happy with the results you will come back for more.

Some areas, like lower legs , could require more treatments. I had my bikini done about 3 years ago and notice now that I will be going back for a second set of treatments - which is common and still a good result.

My ex-GF had it done and it was almost too successful. I prefer an untrimmed "landing strip", and she was bare for quite some time. I took her to her upperlip session once and watched, it was pretty interesting.

Never had it done, but it should be fairly fast and easy, and downtime is almost none to minimal.

I'm a dude with a obnoxiously hairy back and I was thinking about this for a more permanent solution, my back is too hair for shaving, and waxing is painful and very short term, this seems the best option but seems like it would be expensive for such a large area.

Opinions? Observations?

Body hair is so 70s and I'm nothing if not 30 years behind the current trends

I had my bikini area done, although not completely. There are some places I just didn't want a laser to go. :lmao:

If they give you the numbing cream to use beforehand, it really doesn't hurt that bad. It kinda feels like a light snapping of a rubber band on your skin. You'll be red afterwards though, and I'm not sure you'll be able to wear makeup immediately afterward. So plan on going immediately home so you don't have a big red 'stache!!

I'm surprised it would take that long though for such a small area...
