hey,

my friend's mom asked me what her punishment should be. my friend "dominique" took her mom's car without permission and she's only 15, she just got her permit, she drove to the store and got a couple of drinks and came back and as she was backing up so she could leave the car the way her mom had it, she hit a tree and messed it up. and her mom's car is brand new it's an '04. i don't know what to tell her mom for punishment cause she's my friend and everything. so i try and avoid the question everytime she asks. i really want her to go to mardi gras with us, but i don't think she'll be able to. if you were in my position what would you tell her mom to do as punishment or would you at all. :(

You're not the person she should be asking. Obviously her mother doesn't have the parenting skills needed in this situation. Her mother should not be asking a teenager what a punishment for her teenage daughter should be.

Tell her mother that your opinion in the matter should not be relavent...and simply leave it at that.

I'm with Amazon - she shouldn't even be asking you.

My question is: Are your parents aware of this? I'm thinking it might be better if your mom spoke to your friend's mom about her attempt to put you in the middle of this.

Why are you even being asked? But if you want an answer, she should be grounded for a long time and not allowed to get her licence til she is 18.

I've been in your situation before, as bizzare as it sounds. This is what you NEED to say:

Dominique is my friend, you are her mother. Your responsibility as a parent is to determine and enforce the consequences of your child's actions. Any attempt to transfer that resposibility to me is inappropriate. The conflict of interest on my part is both personally uncomfortable, and unneccessary. I'm sorry that I'm unable to help you, and hope you reach a conclusion without my help.
