éire
Myself and my partner (of four and half years) are flying to a "Hot destination" on Sunday 29th February. It is my intention to propose to him on that day. He proposed to me while we were away a couple of years ago and I told him to get back to me... (when he was a free man as he wasn't divorced), however I now feel the time is right for me and I hope he hasn't changed his mind!! I was thinking of proposing while we were "up in the air" on the 29th but then reconsidered, when I really thought about it I didn't think it would be that romantic, with all those strangers and no real privacy... instead I'm thinking of a moonlight walk on the beach that night (we are both lovers of the sea!!) My problem is I'm not sure if I should present him with a token of my intent i.e. ring etc. I have written him a two verse poem in which my proposal lies and I will give this to him to read (Not sure if I would be able to get the actual words out - probably start blubbering!!) For any of you guys out there, what's your feelings on being proposed to by a woman, and would you expect a piece of jewellery in return?? Also would you prefer to read it in a poem or to be asked out right?? I would be grateful for any comments or replies... Ta.
tphillip
Keep in mind this is all IMO I would certainly be surprised by being proposed to by my gf, but in a pleasent sense. The poem is a nice touch and adds a bit of suspense, as in "What is she try to say to me/ask me?". As for the jewelry, that depends on the person. For me, I don't wear a wristwatch much less jewelry and a ring from my gf wouuld not have any impact on me. The poem and the question would be more than enough.
carla
Congratulaions, and Good Luck. I to am going to propose to my sweetie of 6 1/2 yrs, But I am going to wait until March 1 It's a special day for him. I have made him a Welsh Love Spoon and a poem. Once I resite the poem to him I will present him with a ring. I got him a men's soliartie diamond ring which works out great b/c it's also his birthstone. As for the setting I'm still thinking about that one. Your moonlight walk on the beach sounds fabulous. Do what you feel comfortable doing and what you think he would like. Did you ask for his parents blessing? My bf mum was happy, I think shes going to enjoy telling him that she knew b4 him. Anyway I wish you all the best and good luck. Author éire
Thanks for the encouragement tphilip... I must say I'm getting a bit nervous now as the date approaches (only 12 more days to go...) In answer to your question Carla both my b/f's parents are dead so unfortunately that's not an option for me, but I think it's a great idea. Btw what's a "Welsh Love Spoon"? Thanks again for your kind words...and the best of luck on the 1st March....
carla
A Welsh Love Spoon ia wooden spoon that has been carved by a gentleman to give to the lady of his admiration. It usully has different symbols carved in the handle that represents different meanings. ie: Keys with lock = keys to each other heart, Bells = wedding, horseshoe = good luck etc. Anyway the one that I made is cut of wood and the only part that is carved is the scoop, which shaped like a heart. The handle is flat and I painted the symbols. I'm a painter not a carver. The poem I wrote has to do with the symbols that I put in the spoon. It's funny I'm counting down the days as well.
