Eve
I have found a couple of running schedules that seem sensible via the internet but was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions please. I get a deep feeling to run whilst engaged on my walking routine and thought I should maybe just follow this urge? My aim is to strengthen my heart and maintain body toning. Suggestions appreciated. Take care, Eve xx

Take care, Eve xx Running always burns more calories than walking. Always start with a warmup, some stretches ( try not to make them too static earlier on as I heard that makes your muscles more tense), and build up a steady heart rate. Challenging your body is the only way you'll see progress. But on the other hand, when you mention walking routines, I have a feeling that you're following the Galloway running routines and schedules. He is a strong advocate of implementing walking sections into your run workouts (and even for running events). If that is the case, then perhaps it is wise to stick with his schedule since it's designed with a specific purpose. However, I think you could certainly increase the intensity of the walking portion (to a light jog or even run) if it isn't a detriment to the actual running portion. I think I have come across Galloway. I have not been following any real schedule within my walking, it has been mainly for my psychological health. But yesterday I walked for five minutes, jogged for one and it felt right. I picked this out of some plan or another on the internet. I will stick to that for a while I think and build up slowly. I have halved my walking route of 3.5 miles so I don't hurt myself. It does sound silly but it felt really really good. I will have to adjust my diet though because jogging burns so many calories. I think I will have to walk/jog mid evening before dinner - this felt right yesterday. Got to look after myself so I can enjoy being a Grandma one day in the future. Do you jog? Enema
You should stretch after running, not before. It's bad to stretch cold muscles. Congrats on starting though. Running is really addictive once you get into it. Before you know it you'll be doing half mara's

Take care, Eve xx I would direct my energies more toward a bike or swimming if I were you. They run us all the time in the nat'l guard, and when you get to be an old sgt. like me, your knees start to pay for it. But, if you have the inclination, I would think three times a week for twenty minues (at a good pace) would suit you well.

The whole thing has pissed me off somewhat. Never been into pain.. I will keep up the walking and take the advice given to look into swimming... once I find my swimming costume. H'mm.. my daughter stole it a while back. Alas, I am getting on a bit. Never thought I would say that.. Take care, Eve xx
jean-luc sisko
Make targets/goals. Walk 1000 paces one day. Then 1500 the next. 2000 the next, and so forth.
