I have had dark circles under my eyes for a long time now. Years. I have always just lived with them as part of who I was but I would really like to get rid of them. I just dont know how. I know there is cremes and such but I am a guy and dont want to where make-up. If you know anything or have any advice it would be appreciated.....thanks

Do you drink enough water? Dehydration can contribute to dark circles. If you don't take a multivitamin you might want to start, may be something lacking in your diet. And the obvious, getting enough sleep?

Thanks for your help, I think the allergies may be something to look at as I do have a lot of allergy problems. I know pollen/ dust and such things stir them up, I wonder if I am allergic to a food that i dont know about however. Thanks for the direction

I've got the stupid things. They're called 'allergic shiners'. My doc suggested that I press a hot washrag against them for 30 seconds a couple of times a day to help clear the congestion that causes them. Needless to say, you use water no hotter than you can stand. If you want a detailed explanation of how they occur:

There are lots of causes but allergic rhinitis is most common, I'm told. It's always worthwhile seeing a doc for a diagnosis, but if Goat has had them his whole life, an iron deficiency would likely have been picked up in an exam by now.

An iron deficiency may have been picked up by now, but not necessarily. Can't hurt to do a double check on that one.

But I do agree that extensive allergy testing might root things out for him. He'll also find out that way if he does have a food allergy, as he stated he suspected.

It doesn't matter Moimeme. You'll always be attractive to me! ;)

And I'm not sorry for putting you on the spot! :p

My under-eye bags seem to be a permanent part of my facial landscape these days, but when I'm tired they are actually steamer trunks!

One advantage to wearing glasses (maybe I should post this in the glasses thread too!) is that they hide them rather nicely!!!

Thanks, sweetie! :D

I used to know someone who'd say 'I'd love you even if you looked like a bag of hammers' ROTFL! Not exactly poetic but I couldn't fault the sentiment LOL

Actually, try the hot compress thing. It seems to work much better for the steamer trunks than it does for the shiners.

wow, thanks for all the possibilities. I hope it is moimeme's suggestion rather then anything to do with heart disease. My family does not have them.................just me. I will try the hot water thing. I should go to a doctor and I will. I actually have quite a load of things I can unload on this doctor because its been a while and the problems have just sort of been adding up.

On halloween I was going to be a vampire and one of my co-workers made a joke. Said- hey- "Your already half there- you know- with the dark circles and such"

Sigh!

I was once on a website for men's grooming products that had a product that you put in the circles under your eyes once a day I think and it's supposed to reduce the coloration. It was some kind of gel or something, and you put a drop or two on them and rub it in. It also had another product that you were also supposed to put over your eyes for a few minutes a day (can't remember if it was supposed to be hot or cold), that you could use in conjunction with the gel. Don't know if it works, still trying to decide whether to try it since it was about $30 for a month's supply.

K is what goes under the eyes for the dark circles and it is a genetic thing - only if it is not something you've had before - vitamin K works for me! St. Ive's makes a tube of it and it is about $8.00.

Just be sure not to overuse - it kinda wrinkles up if you use too much in the corners of your eyes!

I would also try anything from Lancome. It is pricey but well worth it!
