Walking 3x/day at work + P90X

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else walked while at work? I've never been one to take breaks but honestly all this sitting around in an office all day long is getting old. So I decided to go walking around the parking lot at breaks and at lunch. 2 laps at break, and 4 laps at lunch. I measured the distance with my car and it works out to 2 miles/day. I get a little sweaty at the first break, then sweat quite a bit at lunch and the afternoon break. Still, I'm really loving it - except that I'm thinking about wearing work-out clothes to work. haha!

I've also just started doing some exercises from the P90X videos in the evenings. I should get results from all of this, don't ya think? My body has been very resistent to losing weight in the past few years. I feel like I'm working my hiney off....literally. :)

i do p90x, it is hardcore, keep at it! which videos have you been doing?

I have done all of them except for "chest, shoulders, and tricepts" and "back and bicepts" which are coming this week (i am "following" a program- i do not like the yoga video so i have switched it out for something more intense).

make sure you eat healthy too :)

I'm doing the cardio video - yea, it is truly hardcore. I'm just borrowing this one but I intend to buy the set. Do you get them all at once or do they send them in stages? Did you get equipment with them? My son, who is already slender, has been doing them for a couple of months now and he is looking super-toned. He was home from college this past weekend and showed me a twisty exercise that blew my mind - but he did it like a pro. I was super-impressed. I really like the way the guy narrates the videos, too. Very good and he reminds you to slow down if you're having problems keeping up (that would be me). haha.

What do you recommend nutrition-wise? I'm assuming proteins and veggies. I have to be very careful about what I eat and have to mostly eat organic foods only. Otherwise, I'll gain weight no matter what I do. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but it's a fact.

That's great that you can fit it into your work day.

I'm fairly similar. I work in IT and my employers are quite flexible. I run instead of taking a lunch break 5 days a week.

Sometimes I go for longer runs, the longest I've done in the middle of the day was 10 miles. I felt a bit dirty taking that long out of a work day and stayed late.

haha! That's funny. I used to run about 6 miles/day but I never attempted that at work. I get so sweaty at lunchtime just from walking that it sometimes takes about 2 hrs before I fully cool off. And then it's time to go out and walk again. It is tempting sometimes to keep working and skip it for that day but that defeats the purpose, doesn't it? There aren't enough people in the office to care if I get sweaty - they all think it's neat that I'm walking. A couple of other women are doing it but they're only going at break.

Sometimes I'm tempted to run just to get it over with but I think I'll save that for later. The thing I'm struggling with is that I get home pretty late and by then I'm really hungry - but I need to do the P90X. It's really hard to do all that bending and flexing after eating. This is a tough one for me to work out.

A banana and a spoonful of natural peanut butter works wonders for me. Not bulky enough to really feel full, but it'll keep you going for a little while.

That's a good idea, thanks! I just bought some bananas today. I'll give it a try.

I am actually borrowing it from my parents who bought the set, it all came together with a book. The cardio dvd gives you a good idea of what is in the program, since it takes a lot of moves from other videos.

You do not get any equipment with the video, so if you do not have some weights or bands, you may want to look into that, but you can use makeshift stuff at your house (for weights use cans), i use a band and the railing on my stairs for the pull ups, because i have no pull up bar.

btw- ab ripper x will burn the first few times you do it! :)

i think nutrition is different for every person, but protein and veggies has rarely ever hurt anyone!

I really don't get how you guys can exercise so much and then get back to work all fine and dandy.

I exercise a lot more now than I did in the past when I had to study a lot. The reason being that when I get back after exerting myself, I want nothing more than to lie in my bed and sleep! Which isn't conducive at all to productivity. Isn't this the usual body response to exertion? I don't get how people say, "I run 5 miles in the morning before work, it refreshes me". Sure it does for the first 30 minutes or so while the adrenaline is still there... and then your body needs to compensate for the oxygen debt incurred by the anaerobic metabolism of your muscles, and you feel tired.

Doesn't anyone feel it???

Well, yes and no. When I just walk, I'm not tired at all. When I do more strenuous exercise, yes, I can see why you might feel tired. Like after the videos that I do - but one night I went out walking for another 20 min after doing the video. I used to run before work and then jump in the pool and I never felt tired. Typically exercise should make you feel more energetic. What you're describing about the body needing to compensate doesn't make sense. I've never experienced that.

It does, because when you exert yourself beyond normal metabolic rate, muscles switch to anaerobic metabolism, producing lactic acid and causing an 'oxygen debt'. Later, the lactic acid makes your body feel sore, and the body has to replenish the ATP which drains your resources (you also have to replenish the oxygen, but that happens really quickly).

That wasn't me just a vid I grabbed off youtube. But that is my job. That was inside a wind turbine. 300 ft. straight up. Pretty good workout to get to the top. No I haven't tried p90x. I hear it's pretty brutal. I just lift weights and run. (and climb tall ladders)
