Okay, so I bought a little bag of diced almonds in the cooking section but they are very bland . What can I do to jazz them up ?

I was thinking of chopping them up really fine and putting them on a salad....

Deadlift video :)

The little shrug thing that the first lady is doing is um... interesting.

Some of these people are pulling "up" instead of "back" (specifically, the two males at the end of the video) which is incorrect. The deadlift is not a squat (thanks Capt. Obvious). Another thing that was interesting is that everyone in the video except for the first woman was wearing cross trainers. Granted, I know that they were not training (the video is for demonstrative purposes), but deadlifting in cross trainers is far from ideal because of the way they elevate the heels. This shifts weight to the front of the foot, which messes up the lift.

Also, the concentric phase of the lift (the way up) should look different than the eccentric phase (lowering the weight). They should not mirror one another. Again, not a squat. People who try to squat the weight down on the eccentric phase are asking for injury.

If the first lady in the video would put her shoulders back instead of shrugging, I would recommend her form (and attire) as a good model of how to deadlift. She's training in weightlifting shoes (barefoot or chuck taylors are a good alternative) and she's pulling back with plenty of hip drive without putting them through too much. She's also not squatting the weight down.

Thanks :) Can you find a video that better demonstates the deadlift ?

Whole roasted almonds are delicious, I love em just like that. If you buy them already sliced/chopped or anything like that they will be very bland.

Like cheese, nuts lose their flavor to their surroundings based on surface area. When a nut is sliced and then packaged it has a much greater surface to volume ratio than a whole nut, and thus by the time it reaches your mouth it's lost 99% of its flavor, the nutrient value is the exact same but the flavor is dead and tasteless. Just like buying pre-shredded cheese.

So with nuts and cheese buy them whole, and shred/slice/chop them yourself and you'll do much better.

Oh and you can always slice almonds and roast them yourself in the oven until they get a little brown and crispy, then it's a hot snack that reminds me a bit of baked chips.

Food powers activate

Shouldn't be too hard to find whole almonds anyway, try looking in the snack food section rather than in the baked goods. I always find them near the popcorn for some reason :bunny:

Yea... I asked where the almonds were and they directed me to the baking aisle...I will check out what you said and I will def toast them :)

I was wondering about sugar : Which sugars in foods are considered good for you , example : some sugars in fruits and some to avoid ?

I don't know much about that, I'm an 'everything in moderation guy' so I eat whatever I want and just keep an eye on total calorie intake for the day, it works out well for me. I don't eat many sweets only because I'd rather eat more of something not so calorie dense.

At least until halloween when I'm going to go into a candy induced coma on 75% off candy on november 1st.

Sugar is pretty much sugar. Obviously there are different types of sugars, but all in all, every one of them needs to be viewed as adding carbohydrates to your diet (if you're counting calories).

Some have said that apples and bananas should be avoided either outright or until just prior to or after exercise (due to their high fructose content), but this seems like a stupid practice to me seeing as they contain a lot of other things that are great for you.

As long as you're keeping things like juice, sodas, deserts, alcohol (even distilled), and what not down to a minimum, you'll be headed in the right direction.

I had a banana yesterday after I walked. :) I don't drink juice , sodas rarely , water ALOT , desserts are my weakness but I am working on that one and I don't drink alcohol .

I do crave anything made by Hostess lol ! But I don't indulge , I just read the package contents and put it back , that helps :)

  • 4 weeks later...

If horses are being tested (especially in jockey racing) they will be put on a specially constructed treadmill. Large treadmills can also accommodate cars. Treadmills can also be used to exercise dogs that are accustomed to running on a conveyor; however avoid tying the leash to the treadmill as it can cause serious injury.
