USMCHokie Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 ...plays some good music (preferably stuff like Metallica, Aerosmith, Tool, FFDP, Godsmack, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, etc.)... I prefer that my gym plays Miley Cyrus, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, and some Rihanna...whenever I hear "Party in the USA" blasting on the speakers, I try to fit in as many sets as possible while I'm all pumped up...
USMCHokie Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 What's a dip station ? Hmmm, it kinda looks like a throne without the seat, if you can imagine that...they usually have a built in pull-up bar, and some also include the pull-up/dip assist, which is a movable weighted platform that you can stand on to assist you with pullups and dips...the "armrest" of the throne is essentially two horizontal bars pointed directly back out at you to do dips... Should I do lower body one day. ie; elips and stair climber and then next day upper body with weights ? How about lower body with weights one day and upper body with weights the next day? And do the elliptical/stairs afterwards?

Okay, I like your idea but my tendancy is to do the cardio stuff first and then the weights last
USMCHokie Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Okay, I like your idea but my tendancy is to do the cardio stuff first and then the weights last If it's light cardio, then it's fine to do first...but you really don't want to tire yourself out too much before the weight training portion of the workout...although we may have different end goals in mind, the general training principles remain the same...you want the most energy and strength available for the most difficult part of the workout, so I would suggest doing weights first...

Another nutrition question : Where I live Boiled Peanuts are the rage. So I bought some and then checked it out online. It says Peanuts contain Mono Fats which are good fats. And niacin . Pretty good things to say overall.. What do you think of eating nuts in general ? NO matter how I type that its going to come out wrong , lol
USMCHokie Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 What do you think of eating nuts in general ? NO matter how I type that its going to come out wrong , lol Oooh, I looove eating nuts...just can't get enough nuts in my mouth...I prefer getting the giant tub of cashews as they are relatively inexpensive...but I think of all the readily available nuts, almonds are the your best bet, albeit a little pricey...nuts are chock full of protein and good fats...since you mentioned it, I think I'm going to go ahead and savor a handful of salty nuts right now!
tman666 Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 just can't get enough nuts in my mouth Some homo? Sorry I couldn't resist, haha. Btw, I love Ke$ha and Lady Gaga too. Do I have to turn in my man card? Mary3: Definitely do your cardio after weights like Hokie said. The primary reason is for optimization and safety. It's not good to go into a weight workout already too pre-fatigued, especially if you're doing compound exercises like squats and deadlifts. Hit the weights hard, and then finish up with your cardio. Another alternative is to do your cardio on separate days entirely. BTW: TOOL was insane in concert. My only complaint was that it seemed too short (even though it was a full hour). Amazing special effects. Also, I think Maynard may be from a different planet.

Okay I will try it the way USMC said Okay which weights should I use to get tight thighs ?...Is it the machine weights or the free weights ? Yea I had my cell phone and was getting some amazing video of TOOL when security tapped me on the arm... I got a Hoodie and a Tool T shirt. Everytime I wear it I get stopped ( 3 guys in one day said Woah Tool ) so much loved band

Yep, there's plenty of nuts for ya ! All kidding aside I did read today about almonds and I am going to go buy some this week . It also said Almonds do something to the glycemic index ( something like that ) if you ate 2 pieces of bread and had almonds your GI was lower than if you had none at all...
USMCHokie Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Okay which weights should I use to get tight thighs ?...Is it the machine weights or the free weights ? Squats, deadlifts, and lunges for starters...you can do all of these with a dumbbell in each hand...or if you're feeling adventurous, with a barbell...combine with high intensity cardio training to reduce overall body fat... I personally try to avoid the various leg machines because their use with heavy weight tends to place tremendous strain on the joints...

I don't know all the details regarding GI, but almonds are one of those magical foods that are nothing but good for you...
Author Mary3 Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 Hahah, yep. I don't know all the details regarding GI, but almonds are one of those magical foods that are nothing but good for you... So.....I had a small bag of almonds for my Wendys grilled chicken salad but when I saw 14 grams of fat , I threw the almonds in the cupboard , lol ! So I won't need to worry about the fat content of almonds , good ! From what you know , how good are they for you in terms of nutrition ?
johan Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Almonds are perfectly shaped to wedge themselves in the esophageal opening, cutting off all air supply and resulting in a desperate, miserable death.
Author Mary3 Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 Almonds are perfectly shaped to wedge themselves in the esophageal opening, cutting off all air supply and resulting in a desperate, miserable death. Thanks Johan But isn't that the way to go , die with some nuts in your mouth ? lmao:
tman666 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I wouldn't put too much stock in the Glycemic Index. There's too many examples of foods that are widely known as fattening and nutritionally sparse that rate as "good" according to the GI. BTW Hokie, sorry about the nuts comment earlier, I hope you know I was just messing around. I have the mind of a high school sophomore.
USMCHokie Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 So.....I had a small bag of almonds for my Wendys grilled chicken salad but when I saw 14 grams of fat , I threw the almonds in the cupboard , lol ! So I won't need to worry about the fat content of almonds , good ! From what you know , how good are they for you in terms of nutrition ? The whole idea that fat is bad for you is quite dated (1990's). We now know a lot more about the positive effects and benefits of the right kinds of fats for your body. Of course, everything should be consumed in moderation (even the good stuff!), but the unsaturated fats, as found in almonds and other nuts, have been shown to improve cardiovascular health and even aid in overall body fat loss. Another food that used to have a very bad rap were eggs, with their high cholestorol content. It's perfectly fine to eat egg yolks, as the good cholestorol is essential to many of your body's basic functions.

D-Lish Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Almonds are perfectly shaped to wedge themselves in the esophageal opening, cutting off all air supply and resulting in a desperate, miserable death. They also resemble suppositories, and I can't look at him, let alone ingest them without re-living a childhood trauma.
johan Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 They also resemble suppositories, and I can't look at him, let alone ingest them without re-living a childhood trauma. You could use them as suppositories, except they serve no purpose. I'm sorry about your childhood trauma. But I'm sure it was soon followed by a very funny popping sound as the almond was expelled, and that more than offset the trauma.
tman666 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 They also resemble suppositories, and I can't look at him, let alone ingest them without re-living a childhood trauma. You know, I hear they're more easily absorbed (thus maximizing nutritional potential) this way...
