My weight loss story

Recommended Posts

Bored so I thought I'd post:

Back in march I got up to 200lbs. I'm 6ft so I wasn't bulbous or anything, but I was getting chunky and when I got my first stretch mark I set the tires screeching to a halt in my mind. I compared a picture of me from about 3 years ago to a then current photo and I could definitely see a difference especially in my face. I had gradually gone up from a size 34 to a size 38.

I was eating pretty horribly. Fast food / take out at least once a day sometimes twice. A daily giant bowl of ice cream. Lots of snacks when I got home from work until bedtime.

Over the last 6'ish months I've lost 30lbs, down to 170lbs. Amazingly to me and others I also quit smoking after 10 years in the same time period and still managed this weight loss. I had some help by taking Chantix for that.

I started off by ditching the ice cream and all evening snacking. I simply stopped buying them at Walmart. I bought a scale and started weighing myself each morning. I dropped 10lbs pretty quickly in a month or so. Watching the scale report a lower and lower number was very encouraging so I started calorie counting.

I ate whatever I wanted as long as I was under a set amount of calories per day. I started off with a total of 1900 calories and have decreased that to about 1400-1500 cal / day currently. This is actually pretty easy to me now. I still eat fairly horrible. I'll catch a fast food meal every other day or so but with the difference of - I STOP EATING WHEN I'M FULL!! That I think has been the biggest contributor to my weight loss. Even if I've only eaten less than half the food on my plate, if I feel satiated I'll stop. I dropped another 10 lbs by doing this over 2'ish months (up to month 3 or so).

At that point I started walking in combination with everything else previous. I started walking a mile, then 2, then 3. I then started alternating jogging 200yds and then walking 200 yds. That went great for a few weeks and then out of nowhere I got shinsplints in my left leg. That has pretty much crippled my jogging even still. I've tried to compensate by walking further but often lack the time, especially with it getting darker sooner now.

Now I've started a little strength training. I started last week with some pushups and I did about half of the P90X abripper one day. That was horrid heh and today I used my apartments crappy weight machine and did some bench presses, bicep curls, vertical rowing, and lat pulls. I'm having trouble typing this my upper body is so tired :)

It feels great getting back into being fit. My goals are to lose another 5lbs trimming down to 165 and from that point on gaining muscle mass and stamina. Another huge goal is to get rid of my damned shin splint. For the time I could do it without agonizing pain - I LOVED running and it would be great to be able to do that.

Wow - you have made major positive changes in your life! :) I have to say I am pretty amazed that you quit smoking in the midst of all of that, as well.

Have you been to see anyone about the shin splints?

Thanks!

I've spent a lot of time reading about splints but haven't seen anyone about them. I've tried stretching daily and before a run and after a warmup and after the run. That doesn't seem to help really but I still do it. I then bought some actual good running shoes that may have helped a little. What helps the most with pain afterwards is icing my calf.

I don't know of anywhere to run outside that isn't concrete. I can run on a treadmill but that just isn't enjoyable to me. I guess my next step is going to an actual running store and have them advise me on a shoe and maybe my running style

Congrats bobdole! 30 pounds is pretty amazing!

How do you manage to stick to 1400 1500 calories per day? I find I feel tired pretty easily if I don't eat about 1800, and I'm a 5'8 women.

It doesn't seem to be difficult for me. Yesterday i ate less than normal but my food intake was:

2x boiled egg whites - 35cal

breakfast bar - 90cal

Turkey sandwich - 260cal

NY strip steak - ~500 cals worth

Serving of canned green beans - 50 cal

Cereal +whole milk - 270cal

Comes to 1205 calories. Today I'll probably something more like 1500-1600 cals. I haven't noticed any difference in energy levels. I still have about 16% body fat though so I'm sure I've got enough calories stored to help offset the lower caloric intake - which is what I'm trying to do :) burn off the fat

One thing I've noticed that I consistently do is that the bulk of my calories come from super(5pm). I naturally am not hungry when I wake up. I don't seem to GET hungry if I don't eat something first. Just something weird to note...

  • 3 weeks later...

As it is basically a conveyor belt, the treadmill can be used for activities other than running. If horses are being tested (especially in jockey racing) they will be put on a specially constructed treadmill. Large treadmills can also accommodate cars. Treadmills can also be used to exercise dogs that are accustomed to running on a conveyor; however avoid tying the leash to the treadmill as it can cause serious injury.

NavedAnabolic

It's true. I tried everything and I simply couldn't gain any weight. I'm not gifted with great genetics, or very athletic. I'm just an average guy who was fed up with being a skinny, 135-pound weakling.I needed to learn how to gain weight. Muscle mass, that is by means of Steroids. Buy Anabolic Buy Steroids

After sifting through all the hype and crappy supplements, I discovered a few all-natural, muscle-gaining techniques that really help skinny people build more muscle mass. And do it faster than most typical weight gain workouts.
