Which do you prefer ladies? And it'd also be interesting if you wrote out the personality type you go for, to see if there's any correlation. I'm 27 btw.

I have a strong, strong preference for boyish handsomeness, always have. I'm not talking about effeminate or teeny-bopper types (think Zac Efron or Hayden Christensen ). They're still masculine.

Celeb examples would be Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, young Tom Cruise, Jared Leto, young Marlon Brando.

Manly handsomeness does nothing for me. In fact, I simply can't view these guys in a sexual way. They remind me of fathers.

Celeb examples: Jon Hamm, Richard Gere, Josh Holloway, Gabriel Aubry

For me the essential difference is boyish handsomeness comes more from the eyes, coloring, feature definition and smile. Manly good looks are more about the bone structure, in particular the jaw.

George Clooney is kind of a compromise between the two, and I like him a lot. But he's an exception.

In terms of personality, I like a guy to be as masculine as possible. In fact I enjoy that contrast.

I don't really care. All of those guys are totally hot! :D

As long as a guy is 'attractive enough' I don't care what flavor he comes in as long as he's got heart, brains and a personality that meshes with mine.

Boyishly handsome all the way! (Jared Leto :love:)

I am attracted to goofy funny guys, who are insanely smart, who do geeky things like play WoW, and who are not overtly masculine. IME, really masculine men have gender roles that are too structured for me. I don't fit into the "women are like this" box very well.

But back to Jared Leto..........YUMMY. ;)

I don't think Christian Bale is boyish at all...

My tastes changed as I grew older, from boyish to manly. I think I started switching over at about age thirty, lucky for me because my husband is definitely the more rugged type.

Personality wise, I like the quintessential good guy, masculine but sensitive, well-rounded, well-intended, strong-principled, good-humored. I particularly like a man who is funny, a bit snarky, a bit creative, and very, very smart. I have always gravitated towards geeks and artists, guys with a bit of Renaissance-man about them.

Masculinity is outside of rigid gender-construct definitions, IMO. I think my husband is very masculine, he is hairy and lumbers like a bear and builds fighting robots and sometimes gets confused by my feminine logic --traditionally masculine. He also loves to cook, makes his own wine and grows his own herb garden, is very nurturing with our kids, and doesn't care at all about sports.

Boyish behaviour/ appearance is a turn off. I want men (above 25 at least) to look and behave like adults...

I think Eric Bana is probably the closest to my ideal man, physically. I love the soulful expression in his eyes. Whether he's more boyish or more manly is difficult to say. I think he's a delightful combination of the two.

If Christian Bale is boyish than I'm a post-op transsexual.

The man is anything but boyish, he's the epitome of an Alpha Male. He could have stared as King Leonidas in 300 instead of Gerard Butler and would have looked the part.

enrique iglesias epitomises boyish.

I have to agree, I did a little doubletake when I saw Christian Bale on the boyish list.

He's Welsh, the Welsh don't do boyish, neither do the Scottish or Irish, we leave boyish to the English.

Ah now I understand. You prefer real men like Rab C Nesbitt ;):D

I am with the OP -- boyish handsomeness ALL THE WAY.

Nothing hotter than a boyish face on a NICE big manly body though... so the combo is what gets me.

Manly men remind me of fathers too.

And I DO think Christian Bale qualifies as boyishly handsome, in my books! He doesn't have a big "manly" jaw -- he has delicate features and is very "pretty" -- attached to a hot body...ooooooohhhhh yeah!

Other men I like are Bradley Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal. YUM!

I have never been attracted to men like Russell Crowe AT ALL. He does nothing for me. He's manly and beefy and really unappealing to me.

I am also with the OP in that George Clooney is a sort of exception. He's so charming!!!

And yeah, John Hamm... does nothing for me. Same with guys like Dermot Mulrooney and Daniel Craig.

Oh, and Matthew McConaughey... he's sort of boyish but I don't like him because he comes off as mentally challenged to me.

Nah, men don't float my boat seeing as I'm a heterosexual male. If we're going to discuss women then it's Nigella Lawson for me.

I guess then Rab would not float your boat. But Nigella? How could you?

What's wrong with Nigella? She has a beautiful figure and way she gazes at the camera when she bites into a truffle just makes me go weak at the knees. She is sex personified.

Her cookery programmes are just short of a soft porn film with all the finger licking, moans & groans etc

All I can say is - think of her father. That should be enough to put you off.
