What if someone close to us gets engaged right before/after us?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking since my boyfriend has made it clear we will be engaged by the end of 2010, what if other couples close to us get engaged too? It's near our anniversary as well as christmas and new years.

I would love to not have to share any excitement :-)

Would be a bit of a bummer if someone else gets engaged the week or month he is going to ask me.

Anyone have this happen?

Yes, I had this happen. All our friends seemed to get married/engaged within a few months of each other. And 13 years later it's a total non-issue as it's a relatively minor blip in the universe.

If you all ended up getting married in the same month, now that could be inconvenient ;)

IME, it's just a really cool moment in time. Hot for me since I was wearing a Santa suit, but cool nonetheless. No worries. Hope it goes well :)

Yeah, so? Sorry but this just seems really silly to me.

You be graceful and congratulate them. Your day to shine is the day you actually get married, not when there's a promise of it happening.

Your excitement is yours. Theirs is theirs. Fortunately, there is no limit to how many people can have good news to celebrate. There is room for all.

If what you are saying is--you want your wedding to be everyone's excitement, and don't want anyone else having excitement that would draw attention away from you.....well, that sounds a little "bridezilla" :o

Good grief, you cannot expect everyone to wait for him to pop the question. I don't understand why you are PLANNING becoming engaged. If he wants to marry you and you want to marry him, what is the big deal?

Why does it matter if other people become engaged when you do? I don't get it.

LOL well that was easy... I guess it's not a big deal after all, I just figure im so so excited and I'd love to be a little girl about it for at least a few weeks! I am curious too if it's proper ettiquet to wait a certain amount of time in families when people get engaged. Like if it matters how soon after someone else. I know a few people that might be that are in our families and I'm thinking of the holidays coming up. I think it's all very exciting! But really not a big deal what anyone else does, very true..

I kinda get it, you don't want someone else to steal your thunder, you want the good news to be about your engagement for a while. Nothing wrong with that but the only problem is you can't planned it, it's just the luck of the draw really.
