wideawake
Hey moimeme, I'm pretty up on most supps, so let me see if I've got this straight. You want: 1) Something that tastes like coffee 2) With no caffeine content 3) Decaffienated coffee is out as it gives you probs. 4) caffeine does nothing for you, so you're not looking for something to replace the stimulation from caffeine, but just something to replace the enjoyable cup of coffee, hence the request to have something taste like coffee. Correct? Or would you also like to have this beverage provide some stimulation as well, though not from a caffeine source?
Author moimeme
wideawake - You got it exactly right. And no, no stimulation needed - it's a tongue craving, not a physiological one It's the taste sensation I'm after. Patty - thanks but I can't drink decaf. The chemicals they use to decaffeinate make my heart go funny.
cdn
thanks but I can't drink decaf. The chemicals they use to decaffeinate make my heart go funny. What about decaf that's water treated as opposed to chemically treated? Also, do you have uterine fibroids? If so, try topical progesterone, which will naturally counter your estrogen (which is what the fibroid feeds on). Maybe you can still have coffee!

Author moimeme
What about decaf that's water treated as opposed to chemically treated? I'll look into it! Thanks. I didn't research coffee decaffeinating processes. Also, do you have uterine fibroids? Nope. A little higher quote:Originally posted by Tony "Anybody got a satisfying substitute for coffee?" quankanne
sailors? powertools? … heheheh … Arabess, sounds like you've got the PERFECT substitute for caffeine! Moimeme, consider a product called Postum ______ Postum Food Coffee – or "Postum" – a blend of chicory, with roasted wheat and other grains found in the Texas Plains, marketed by inventor CW Post, who'd experienced health problems.) Like you, Moimeme, coffee (caffeine) had side effects on Post's body, but still, he liked the taste. So, he remembered a concoction he'd once been served, something whipped up by farmers' wives when they had to "make do" without coffee. A friend of my husband's drinks the stuff and really likes it, and he's an old Army guy used to the "real" thing! I can't vouch for it myself since I hate the taste of coffee ... Of course, you could frequent those restaurants and establishments who claim to brew tea fresh every day, and it turns out they use their coffee-makers to do so, thus ruining the taste of a perfectly good glass of iced tea. Moimeme, consider a product called Postum I've heard some good stuff about this product as well. To quote a buddy of mine - "There is also an old product made by Post called Postum. I think it may still be available in supermarkets. I believe the Post brands may be part of General Mills now.

wideawake
Here's some info from another guy in regard to your request for a caffeine free/non-decaf coffee product. Sounds interesting. Been there, done that! Product: Matte Latte Manufacturer: Republic of Tea This is an herbal blend that has a very small amount of caffeine. I add a small amount of low fat milk filtered water, fill an individual serving sized open-top tea bag (Mini Minit filters) to about 75% full and suspend in the approx 10-12 oz of the water/milk combo. Nuke in a microwavable cup for 3 min on high (1200-1500W MW). Let immerse for 2-3 minutes, decant, and if you like sugar but are looking for a suitable substitute, use Stevia concentrate, a smidgeon does the job. Voila. Herbal tea that tastes more like coffee than you'd hope for. Another hint: You can decaffeinate regular tea in a very simple process (steam/hot water extraction): Same approach (single serving tea bag or larger filter basket for a teapot) - this time heat the water, (sans milk ) to light boil, immediately immerse the tea bag for a period of 20-40 sec with swirling, then decant, pour off the hot water, reheat an equal amount of water, and reimmerse the treated teabag as you normally would (2-4 minutes, depending on tea and leaf type). If you have a SFE machine, by golly, you can remove that bothersome caffeine from your regular coffee, too. However, this is a spendy kitchen accessory . Alternatively, you can purchase Swiss water extracted coffee or SFE-extracted coffee from many bulk coffee roasting companies. Try Coffee-AM for starters. These treated beans still have small amounts of residual caffeine, so limit your consumption appropriately.

wideawake
Nah, I like coffee sometimes (Saturday morning with the girl and reading a paper, or going out for breakfast). But I'm not by any means a big coffee drinker. I usually roll into the office and slam a 1/2 gallon of water by lunch, and than another 1/2 after lunch. Never really got into the coffee thing.
