feelinguilty
I am wondering how a break up affects those who are recovered alcoholics? Can it send them back? Does the amount of time they have been recovered have anything to do with how well the RA can cope? For example: 2 yrs in recovery vs 10+ yrs?
dario
Firstly, you must think of yourself too. That's of paramount importance. But I know that it will hurt the person and if they don't have a sfaety net or a strong support group then the hand might just reach for the bottle.

silversoulfly
I would say that an alcoholic within the first year of sobriety is more likely to have a relapse than someone with two, but it all depends on the individual. This person will only pick up a drink if they want to get drunk. If this person has been sober for some time, say two years, its probably safe to say that they want to stay sober, and this won't push them over the brink. However, I've seen people with many years of sobriety relapse for no apparent "reason". Just keep in mind that their are no reasons- only excuses- for a relapse, and if the person drinks over a break-up, an excuse is all it is. Just worry about yourself. lil_suzy
you do not have the power to keep anyone sober nor do you have the power to get any one drunk. You are just not that powerful hunny. If it's over move on.
feelinguilty
I asked this ? b/c after quitting smoking for 2 yrs my ex did something which made ME light up again. I realize it was my decision. I know I lit the match. I know I would'nt have if not for a certain incident.
