Clot under placenta during 13th week of pregnancy..have u heard of this?

Recommended Posts

Okay I do realize this is a "parenting" forum and this is a pregnancy question..however I'm really worried and am wondering if anyone knows anything about this or maybe has experienced this before...:(

I am 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant today and two days ago I went to the ER due to heavy bright red bleeding...I was horrified to think that I could be losing my first baby...:(

Anyway baby is fine, heartbeat is strong...and I was diagnosed as having a blood clot under the placenta....I've never heard of this and though I've researched a bit online I would rather hear from someone who has experienced this.....is it normal? Higher risk for m/c? Any positive outcomes?

Thanks for your help..am hoping to be able to put my mind at ease a bit....:o:o

I think it isn't much to worry about at this point...however try to take it easy. Most likely it will not complicate your pregnancy but the possibility is there. I believe worst case scenario is one like mine where I ended up with a placental abruption at 30 1/2 weeks. She was delivered at that point. Luckily she was fine but it was scary. It was heavy bright red bleeding that sent me to the ER that day. My daughter spent 2 weeks in the hospital due to her prematurity and I sm lucky she was unscathed. It is also dangerous for the mommy to have a placental abruption.

What they recommend is bed rest and try to avoid sex because that can cause contractions.....more so a little further along then 13 weeks though. No heavy lifting and try not to be on your feet if you don't have to be. I am sure they will be monitoring it so just take all the Drs advice.

Good luck with your baby to be:love:

I had that around that time too. It was a subchorionic hemorrhage and it scared the mess out of me! I miscarried last fall and thought I was miscarrying again. It happened again at 18 weeks, when the rest of it bled out (only the second time it was brown blood and not red). I try to be careful about staying on pelvic rest, particularly since I am also on blood thinners - bleeding for me gets bad. I went in for my 20 week checkup today, and everything was fine. The doctor did tell me that it was not unusual to bleed a little on and off during the pregnancy once you have a subchorionic hemorrhage but never feel bad about calling a nurse or your Ob's after hours line if/when it happens. Just take it easy and don't lift too much. I am glad to hear your baby is doing well!

Oh, and it is good to see you back! I haven't seen you on here in a long time! Congrats on your baby! :):):)

  • 2 weeks later...

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my bf (her father) tried to kill her. because of this I had problems. I was having contractions from March til delivery of her in August. I also had placenta previa and a condition where the placenta tears away from the wall of the uterus. I had extremely heavy bleeding also.

Mainly what I can say is just believe that the baby is going to be fine and listen to EVERYTHING the doctor says! Good luck!
