Gold Pile
A stripper once told me that I had average ears. It's the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. But she was probably just buttering me up for money.
always_searching
Today I ran into a young man who is an undergraduate (he's in his early 20's) in the discipline that I am a graduate student in (I'm 25). He asked me if I was planning on teaching after I finish, and I said, "Yes." Later on, when he was leaving the room we were in, he turned around and said, "If you do teach, you will make one really cute professor." He was really sweet, and, I have to say, it made my day. skydiveaddict
From a fellow soldier while in Afghanistan, I wont go in to details but he said "thanks, I think you just saved my life". I don't think I did really, but it was the best compliment I've ever received none the less.
quankanne
my high-energy big sister was having a really bad day, and she looked at me and said, "I'm really glad when you visit because you bring calm." Melted my heart, because that's how I felt about our mom by just being around her – or hearing her voice on the phone if we were apart – it was such a healing balm.
You Go Girl
This question would take a lot of remembering! I like the saying--It's not what people say that we remember, it's how they made us feel. I remember which people have made me feel good about myself, or humanity in general, and there's a feeling for each person I've known, an overall accumulation.

Teknoe
This past January I auditioned for a huge ensemble play. It was a great experience and later on one of the cast members I grew close with told me what an encouragement I was to him, that he never had to worry about me, that he knew I always "had it" and that the director told him that when he saw me audition, he saw this "light in me" that he knew he couldn't turn away. It was sincerely touching. I think I got goosebumps when he told me all this. That was definitely one of the best compliments I've ever received. Another time, also in a play I was in in 2005, the director told me what a long ways I had come to get to where I was, and that she respects me so much and everyone else does too. I don't know what it is about acting, but some of my best life memories have come through acting. It really bonds people and builds connections and trust like few other avenues in my experience. denise_xo
I really appreciate it when I get complimented on having taught or facilitated a session, or if I've done a good job mentoring. Few things feel better than knowing that you've helped expand someone's thinking.
threebyfate
Spoken compliments can be sincere or false. Compliments in actions are more meaningful. The best compliment ever received was when H. fell in love with me, person to person.
