redmelon
I don't know if there are many people more out of shape than me. I am not fat, by any means, but I am FAR from fit. I am weak and get out of breath easily. I have been in a rut for years, and honestly felt afraid of trying something new. I recently decided, for many reasons, that it's time for me to push myself hard toward changing. Today was my intro session at a place called CrossFit. I did a lot of research and knew I didn't want to go to the same meat market gym I used to go to. The CrossFit methodology made the most sense to me, so today I dipped my toe in! It was super hard! I am hurting a bit, well mostly my muscles just feel spent. But I did it and I am going back on Monday. I guess no one probably cares, haha, but I just needed to document my efforts and pat myself on the back a bit, since I may not be walking tomorrow...
bobdole
Congratulations on getting on the right track! I'm right there with you in the starting out phase. My #1 advice: make sure this is something you enjoy and that you foresee yourself continuing to enjoy so you stick with it. I guess no one probably cares, haha, but I just needed to document my efforts and pat myself on the back a bit, since I may not be walking tomorrow... Don't worry about it. You can join us in the "Share your progress!" thread if you like as that is all the thread is (Ignore the few pages of arguing between green and star gazer). Best of luck to you! Star Gazer
Yaaaaaayyyy!!!! Another CrossFit soon-to-be addict! Drink the KoolAid, it tastes great!! Haha! There's NOTHING like a CrossFit workout to humble you. But I started at the end of August (puked during my first WOD) and have made GIANT leaps in my endurance and strength in a pretty short period of time. It's awesome! I'm so inspired to go everyday! Just you wait, little lady!! Your body is going to transform!! Does your box offer an introductory set of classes (sometimes called Foundations or OnRamp or Principles) to get you acclimated and to learn proper form, or are they just throwing you right in? I seem to remember that you might be in NorCal? I'll PM you.
Author redmelon
Yes, I start the onramp sessions to learn form on Monday, today was sort of a hands on walk through. I did some rowing, squats and some stretching. I almost puked myself, but the instructor told me that it was because I ate too recently and that I should leave 2 hours. I was embarrassed, but oh well! I am going to keep going for sure, because I can already see the potential in the group mentality. I think I need that to persevere when it gets hard. I can see that it can be addicting, but truly in the best way! Thanks for the support so much! I drank some vanilla chai protein and took a nice bath, maybe an anti-inflammatory before bed, haha. Star Gazer, any tips would be fabulous! I'm so glad there are experienced CrossFitters here!

I care. Good for you. Keep it going. There are many other training methods to try as well. So if you burn out on cf, you can do other things for a while, like HIIT (high intensity interval training), which is what my guard unit puts us through before deployment. Or simply a a good cardio workout. The point is you have started on your journey, so don't give up.

I looooove me some CF. I can't wait to hear your progress, RM!
