D-Jam
Yeah, the one term many see on profiles, but we're never sure what it implies. So I ask you...when you see someone make it a point to say they're a Christian, what do you think? Do you think it just means they are Christians and might be seeking other Christians? Or are there any "read between the lines" ideas or other things that come to your mind?

Or are there any "read between the lines" ideas or other things that come to your mind? I think of 2 Corinthians 6:14 which says "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" In other words, the person more than likely wants someone who shares their faith and they're just putting that out there for others to know.
Insanitylater
lol my opinion, is that most people are total hypocrits when it comes to religion. And I call them on it constantly in the online dating world. Too many people just say they are this or that simply to be part of the norm.
Feelin Frisky
It means they talk unconditional love but don't offer any.
ReturnToSender
If they simply state they are Christian, I take it to mean their faith is important to them and they wish to meet someone who feels the same way. That doesnt phase me and I dont reply because religion is not a big part of my life and I know we'd be incompatible. What freaks me out are those who proclaim stuff like the lord is their savior, they are a god fearing man seeking a god fearing woman (usually in all caps Ive noticed) or several religious references throughout their profile. Even if I was religious, that would be a major turn off...
irc333
Recently, I had emailed a "Christian" woman online, she stated she was a Christian and was seeking a Christian man....I emailed her, stating as such....and we emailed back and forth a couple of times, and she pulled the ol' "Disappear off the face of the earth..." routien as any online woman would do. Typically, I don't have a problem with it...then she added somethign to her profile "Okay, for those who have emailed me before, I like a man with confidence and take the initiative to do the contacting, emailing, setting up a meeting....I love that in a guy" Then she said, "When I said I was looking for a Christian man, I meant it, please don't email me swearing like a sailor or trying to talk dirty....I'll have none of it....aren't there any DECENT guys out there?" This irked me big time, and funny how I ( a decent guy ) emailed her...she pulled the "fade" on me. I found it unChristianlike to be not be honest with me. lol my opinion, is that most people are total hypocrits when it comes to religion. And I call them on it constantly in the online dating world. tincanman99
From my experience when people say they are Christian in reference to dating or life its not like you when you are being referenced on a form ie. Jewish, Christian, blah, blah... Its more along the lines that they are born again, evangelical, etc....its referenced in a different context. They usually want someone that enjoys bible study, etc.... As an example, I am Roman Catholic and my friend who is born again told me that I am not "christian" because I dont fit into the born again view that she has.
irc333
As an example, I am Roman Catholic and my friend who is born again told me that I am not "christian" because I dont fit into the born again view that she has. Yeah, I was getting to know this single Christian woman, and when I told her I was Catholic, she goes. "Oh, they aren't Christian" and she said it in a "I think I'm better than you" tone. That was a deal breaker right there, and I found it ironic how snobby she looked down upon me, that conflicted on how she SHOULD react as a Christian. lol She said she goes to a Baptist church, when she was new, people asked her if she was also Baptist, and she goes, "I'm not Baptist, I'm Christian" Apparently, she's always correcting people. quankanne
As an example, I am Roman Catholic and my friend who is born again told me that I am not "christian" because I dont fit into the born again view that she has. so, it's like that, huh? F**K the people who got their faith down right the first time, huh? Because *their* belief could never, ever be as good as the person slamming them, huh? Not a true Christian, in my book, because they dont allow their hearts to seek out and identify the love they profess ... but hey, I'm just an old Catholic chick who is easily amused when it comes to things like that. a couple of things come to mind when I see the term Christian (or hear it) when someone IDs themself as such: First, it's a way to attract people who are like-minded, and that's cool, because it'd be like saying, "I'm into dixieland jazz and reggae and 70s rock" ... it winnows down the selection in a positive way, because it let's people know who you are. but it also has a negative denotation in that it's often used as a divisive element. Because most of the people I've known who wear their "badge" of Christianity so proudly, they do it in a manner meant to belittle someone else. Like y'all just pointed out – you can't be a believer of Jesus and be Catholic/Baptist/Lutheran/etc because in no way does the other person consider those faith traditions as Christian. Sad, really, because the whole bedrock of love that is the Christian hallmark is suppose to unite people, not divide them.
xpaperxcutx
Do Christians like preach more than other religions? I tend to meet people who are agnostic. I have yet to meet someone who want to convert me. Go figure.

Or are there any "read between the lines" ideas or other things that come to your mind? If it's just in the profile as what they clicked when it asked about religion, I would just assume they're just saying their faith. They might not even be all that devout, but are Christian. If it's noted in the profile especially in the part they write themselves... then their faith is important enough to them to note it. I'm Pagan, so I respond to neither. It's not that I have a problem with Christians, but there would be inevitable conflicts even if they weren't devout later on down the road when it came to children. I plan to have my Mom take my kids to church -- and for them to witness my own religious practices as well (no, no dancing naked under the full moon) And for them to go to their friend's churches, synagogues, or mosques. I want to let them decide for themselves. But to me, part of being Christian is not being unevenly yoked, and raising your children in your faith. I know how upset it made my grandmother, who didn't go to church much but had a strong faith, when my mom made the mistake of telling her that I was Pagan. I know there would be a conflict there, which is why I don't respond to those ads, and why I note on my POF profile my religion as "New Age" -- it at least gives people an idea of my beliefs before responding. Surrealist
I submit that most people who label themselves 'Christian' are nominal Christians only, not true followers of Christ.
