Help from people who know

Recommended Posts

I am 23 years old and my fiance and I are plannig to buy a house sometime in the very near future (summer or fall)

I am having a problem with take a leap of faith. I think I maybe able to afford a house and br on my own , she is braver than I and says to let my fear go or we'll never have anything we want.

I am a one of those people that needs a plan for everything. I mean I even have a plan on how I

organize my socks ( I KNOW GEEK). I wanted to know at what age did most people on the board

buy their first house or decided they wanted to fly solo.

I am getting married in 2 years and I need to get something now that

way I can bring my wife home to a house instead of my room.

I know what you guys are thinking and yes I have a good job

and I think I can do it.

NEED INPUT PLEASE

I was almost 34 when I bought my first house -- but had lived in apartments and on my own since I was 20.

Talk to a realtor and since you are getting married - your bride is probably going to want some input on the type/location of house you buy.

A word of caution - the realtors and mortgage companies may pre-qualify you for more than you want to actually spend -- talk to a financial adviser as well so that you don't buy outside of your comfort zone. It's always best to have a good plan when dealing with finances and realestate. Shop around for a mortgage company and a title company. Look at taxes and ask for copies of utilitie bills from the houses you like the best. Talk to your family too - there are lots of hidden costs when buying a home. It can be scary - but exciting too. I would recommend a home warranty too. I use American Home Shield - and there are others available too.

Planning is good and you can take a leap of faith with a plan below you!

If you are definately getting married and want to buy a house together - discuss that with your advisor too. In today's economy its a good idea to know that you can make your house payment and other bills on one salary if you have to. I know people who lost their homes when one person lost their job.
