Why do I always seem to have a large appetite?

Just be careful that if you continue at this level of food consumption that even when your metabolism starts to slow down, you're going to want the same amount and type of food, which from the sounds of it, contains a very high level of carbs. Maybe it's time to consider working out regularly.
Thanks for letting me know. I will keep this in mind and might start going to the gym somewhere between Jan. and Feb. of the next upcoming year as soon as I resume my classes.

Don't need to rely on the gym to work out. :) How about starting with brisk walks/cycling/jogging around the park or something?

Gentle cardio like jogging and brisk walking will do virtually nothing to your muscle mass. You'll get a slight metabolism boost for the day, but that will make very little difference to what you can eat. You really need to tone up to boost your base metabolic rate, and that means doing harder work like weights, circuits, etc.

Hm. Can't afford a gym membership though, which is why I personally do hiking/brisk walking/jogging mostly. Are there any muscle-building exercises that can be done without a gym?

You're welcome. The sooner you get working out, the better for your health and body. Good luck and don't forget to have some fun doing it! :)
