irc333 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 There's this woman I know and she's a Humane Society volunteer....BIG animal lover. She's single and goes on dates somewhat often. On occasion, when she mentions what she volunteers for, she always gets some smart arse making some kind of animal joke like. "Yeah, I like cats, too........mesquite style Har har har har!!" Do guys like this realize what they're doing, even I'm not that bad, and I love animals.
kiss_andmakeup Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Someone who tells jokes like that all the time is probably the kind of person who thinks it's "funny" to run over small animals with their car. I could never associate with someone like that, even on a friendly, let alone romantic level. One bad joke is okay. Repeated jokes in that vein would be a definite deal breaker.
tb24 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 It's just a joke, who cares? Some jokes are designed just to provoke a reaction. Admittedly a date probably isn't the right time to tell such a joke but the classic one is "I like kids/cats/dogs but I couldn't eat a whole one." it's just a bit of harmless fun (Whether it's funny or not isn't even an issue) and I think you're reading too much into it. Suggesting that someone who tells such a joke is actually into animal cruelty is a bit of a leap. Oh and... What's the best way to have sex with a sheep? Take it to the edge of a cliff so it pushes back harder.

Like I said, one bad joke is not a big deal.
Author irc333 Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 I guess it depends, but when someone admits to being a Humane Society Volunteer or a member of the ASPCA, I keep those kinds of jokes to myself, sometimes I think the guy is just deliberately sabatoging the date or something. (in case he wasn't interested or something). It's just a joke, who cares? Some jokes are designed just to provoke a reaction.
