fragileone
How can I build up the self-disipline to stick through an exercise routine? I'll begin to work out, but will soon stop because I'll become distracted/ off on a whim. Maybe my stomach will growl, the phone will ring, I'll just get plain restless, and sometimes for absolutly no reason at all. How can I sustain enough attention to make it though a workout? This upsets me. Maybe I need to get a workout buddy to yell at me every time I suddenly stop and get preoccupied with something else.
moimeme
Find something you like doing so much you can't be distracted from it. Or put a big sign in the room you exercise in reminding you of why you want to exercise. Yes, finding a buddy can help as long as the buddy isn't as much of a goof-off as you are! The real trick is to do something you love. Get hooked on swimming or some sport or even walking and then it's all pleasure.
Author fragileone
I've tried hanging motevational things on my wall. I joined a gym once. I want to work out for my health, and so I'm not so fatigued in the morning and so restless in the afternoon. I dont care to change my body significantly, just a little more strengh and better lungs. The one thing that worked the most was 8-min abs because it was so short...but i've done it several times and cant stand watching it anymore! The extent to which I enjoy the activity doesn't seem to matter, I could love doing something and still stop...or only do it once or twice all the way through
faux
The days I work out I go in my basement with the weight bench and other weights. I'll put on the radio, get a nice cold bottle of water, and just exercise for my half our to forty-five minutes. During rest breaks I have my cat down there to play with, and I can sing along to the radio or pop a CD in. I don't answer the phone when I'm down there. Anything that I will allow myself to get distracted with is right there in the basement already. Perhaps doing your exercising in a place apart from distractions would be good. Once I get started I don't like to stop because it feels good due to the endorphin release. I like to go walking/jogging a lot too. I'll jog a little, walk a little, and alternate. Again I get away from people when I do this and make it my own personal time. I'm very fond of having my own personal time, and incorporating exercise into it has worked wonders for me. I want to quit a lot of the time, but I like being able to challenge myself. Maybe you need to distance yourself from distractions and make it a personal alone thing. Then again, maybe you like to be more social and can find people to exercise with you, or even just go walk places with you. I'm sure once you find an approach that works and you stick through one day, you'll feel invigorated and up to further challenge yourself. Challenging myself plays a huge part in it for me, perhaps it can for you.
Samson
I'd suggest a gym with a weight training "circuit" that allows you to go through your routine one different machine after the other. Of course you'll need to find out if they'll let people your age join. Maybe your mom or dad could get you a membership?
carla
I agree with everyone that says join a gym. Getting there is the hard part, once your there you see everyone else working out it gives you motivation.
LikkleMissConfused
Approx a year ago I was a size 14 and i mt weight was about 9half stone coming onto 10 stone. I am now 7 half stone. Not through deiting bu timproving my diet and mainly exercising mon-frid straight after work. It is a great feeling! I started liek you before would get distracted etc etc no matter how good my intetions are. All I can say is when you see and feel the benefits thats when you will become addicted to the gym and won't want to give it up or allow yourself to be distracted. Commitment and dedication love thats all it take. Just force yourself to do it for a month and you will feel the difference and then you will be addicted.
Emily55555
I think u need to find some source of motivation. Is there anyone you would like to impress? or maybe you just want to look better for yourself. Just look for that motivation and it will be easier to stay focused.
bajancutie
I used to have the same problem but I found that 3 things really helped: 1) Putting together and regularly reviewing a fun scrap-book of my fitness goals including pictures of bodies I admired, records of mini triumphs (like lifting heavier weights, lasting more than 50 mins on the treadmill, gaining a few more lbs) and pictures of myself as I made progress. 2) Scheduling a few sessions with a personal trainer at the gym to get me started, then supplementing the gym with other fun outdoor activities like volleyball, biking, skating or hiking for variety. 3) Focusing on short timeframes such as a week and rewarding myself for keeping to the schedule for that period. This made the whole task of getting fit feel much more manageable and enjoyable. LikkleMissConfused is right. After a while when you see and feel the benefits and realize how much you've accomplished, it will be easier to stay focused.
rockjock
For me, it is a photograph of myself without a shirt on. I place it in front of me when I work out. If just strength and healthy lungs are your goal, try swimming. Dont stop until you do one or two more laps than you did the day before. And dont forget to reward yourself or if you have a significent other, maybe they will reward you!!
