Fasting until breakfast tomorrow, lend your support!

Recommended Posts

The SOUL reason I want to do it now, is so I can reinforce the notion of only s eeing food for what it is; fuel to be enjoyed, but that should not be something I use emotionally very often.

If the SOLE reason you want to do this is to control your emotional eating, I think you're actually shooting yourself in the foot. Once reunited with your emotional crutch (be it food, smoking, alcohol, whatever), you'll binge.

A healthy, moderated diet is what's best, Leigh. You know this, but will continue to fight against it. :(

I've been through 4 years of pharmacy school; bf is a practising doctor and agrees with my viewpoint. What's your source/credentials?

Great, so I value your opinion. I'm interested in fasting and have books about it, I'm part of fasting forums and I have done a lot of research. I have also experienced the benefits of fasting first hand many times. No, I'm not an expert, FAR from it. I just don't like people who know absolutely nothing about it making comments like "that can't be good for your health." If people have taken a genuine interest in fasting and it failed for them, I absolutely value what they have to say.

As I said, I am open to ALL opinions as long as they are informed ones.

If you're trying to identify with poor people in the US, you can follow a much less punishing diet (than a fast) . They're provided with food stamp assitance and can even gain weight. This time of year they eat very well with all the charitable giving.

Several years ago I did some volunteer work, I was disgusted by the well fed, well dressed, nice car owning patrons of the food kitchen. Sure there were some real down and out people there. But this system is broken.

I have not tried it myself, and I would certainly not put down anyone for doing it themselves, as long as they do it after researching (and preferably consulting their doctor if they have preexisting medical conditions).

What gets to ME, though, is when people encourage others to try it, quoting sourceless 'medical benefits' and saying things like 'the body NEEDS a rest from digesting sometimes'. The uninformed may then decide to give it a go, with disastrous results if they are suffering from medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes.
