Single People: Are you a world traveler? Do you vacation alone?

1. How many people on this site travel to vacation solo :o ?

2. How many men on this site travel to vacation more than 2 weeks alone :D?

3. When you travel alone do you also hope to meet another single  or is it strictly for an escape ?

I love to travel and given my job situation, I often have plenty of time to explore the world. Sometimes I hook up on a Contiki tour (18-35 year olds) and others with a company I never heard of. I notice that most people who travel alone are women. The trips are loaded with women and few men. The women all want to enjoy the vacation but also are single and hope to meet someone. :bunny:

I personally don't have the time or money to travel much.

but i would go alone.

my mom travels by herself, mostly to get away and relax.

my girlfriend travels alot for fun and hopes to meet single men while away.

to answer question 3 - both-

Yeah I know what you mean that is one of the reasons I started traveling alone. It is difficult to find those who have the A. TIME or B. MONEY

I think most people who are traveling are either students who are studying abroad or doing it for college credit, or they are older people near retirement or retired.

I was kind of lucky, last summer my I met my boyfriend, and although he was unemployeed (as you may have read in my last post) he had the means to travel most of the summer with me. It was nice to have someone to travel with again.

your not dating my brother are you? liz is that you?

he was 25 and would work 70 hours a week as a chef and make close to six figures, bank it and quit, and vacation for 6-8 months. smart kid, he's retired twice

I'd never heard of Contiki before! I checked out the site... cool!

I love to travel, I am single, and I have traveled alone, but I really prefer to do it with at least one other person. I'm going to see if I can book myself on one of those tours, though!

I have travelled alone and in company. I went to Europe twice; once alone on a Cosmos tour (very good company). I've made several trips to the U.S. (Hollywood, Nashville, Florida) on my own quite happily but have also travelled in the company of spouse and/or friends. Each situation has its merits and drawbacks.

I don't travel expecting to find fellows and would be unlikely to get into a vacation affair. I do hope to make friends, though, and have :)

Saintfrancis----Contiki tours are cool but there are hidden cost. Beware!!! I did a Contiki tour twice and will not do one again. the first time I went to 11 different European countries. Last summer I went on the Alaskan Explorer tour. Awesome tours! I met three terrific girls on the tour to Europe and we had a blast. They were much younger than me, but I enjoyed myself with them. The Alsakan tour I did not really click with the groups because majority of the people were taking it as their honeymoon and had just gotten married. Once again they were all much younger than me as well. I was 30 at the time and the second oldest person on the trip was 26. Most people were 19 and 21.

There were hidden cost and those on the trip who did not have as much money wind up eatting little things like crackers and cheese to stay from being hungry. Truthfully many people could not afford the trip the way thety thought they would. So be careful, the tours are awesome, but they got boring for those who expected to be able to participate in activities and could not afford to.

spencer---No, I am not Liz. Although your brother sounds too cool! What is his sign? Sag (which is what I am), Gemini and Cap's love to travel like that and Sag and Gem's will do that work hard and quit thing. What did he do when he took off?

Well, now that's a tough one. I adore Hawaii, particularly Kauai. It depends what you like. I'm mostly a sightseeing traveller; not a resort/beach lying traveller. If I wanted a rest-type vacation, I might pick the Italian Riviera or Capri. If I wanted to see and do, I'd gladly go back to Austria. I loved Vienna and Salzburg.

Every place I've been to has its merits, though, and there's the whole rest of the world to see. Then again, there are a lot of great Canadian cities to visit :)

I've travelled alone and with a partner. Alone was great, because it forced me to meet people, improved my confidence and I was free to make all my own choices. I backpacked around Europe for a couple of months, before living in Canada for about a year.

With my partner is also great, because there is someone to share experiences with, and someone to help when things get stressful, and someone to cuddle up to at night.

As for best places...I agree with moi...very tough one, because it depends on the type of holiday. For skiing...probably interior BC or Alberta, Canada.

For seeing cool beaches and a different culture, Greece and Turkey were great.

mmm...also loved Switzerland, and Alaska...and recently Japan...so no, I can't pick a favourite! lol! :D

Can't wait to travel more though. So many places to see...Africa, Nepal, Thailand, Maldives, China....

I don't get the chance to really travel. I did make it to Colorado and I absolutely loved it. That was with husband and I think it wouldn't have been as fun if he weren't there. I'm too timid to travel on my own.

I am fortunate to have a wonderful vacation place to go to that's only 60 miles away. My family owns a cabin on one of the best lakes around here and it's my favorite place in the world. *sigh* Spring fever is a bad thing.

I haven't been fortunate enough to ever go on vacation too much out of the U.S. I've travelled out to South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana for 2 weeks, Wisconsin, Arkansas, New Orleans, Arizona and northern Mexico, all by myself. I had a lot of fun each time, although I wasn't at all looking to meet anyone. My parents couldn't afford to take vacations when I was a kid, so I saved up money and went to some of the places that interested me when I became an adult.

I have travelled with my boyfriend quite a bit as well, we're hoping to save up enough to go to Turkey sometime.

I am stuck between China and Ireland. I think it is a tie. I been to many places, but the feeling I got from the people and the surroundings was incredible. If I had to chose (and it would be hard) I say China was dynamic. But then again, I love that wild Irish Sea and the pubs.
