loverofloveandstuff
This might not be the right section but... Last night I was really tired but having trouble getting to sleep. I guess you could say I was half asleep, having a nightmare and desperately trying to wake up from it. I started freaking out because I couldn't wake up and couldn't move my body. I could hear my roommate in the bathroom and was trying to yell out to her but couldn't move my lips. This has happened before but not in a really long time. I hate sleep paralysis, it scares the sh*t out of me. To quote from a website exactly what I was feeling: On the message board, we get numerous stories of people that wake up but can't move. Often, they see things, hear voices, and/or feel an evil presence near or on top of them. And no matter how hard they try, they can't move a muscle. Feeling trapped, they lie there hoping to survive.http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/delirium/articleview.asp?Post=78 Any others experience sleep paralysis? I notice it happens more often to me when I'm really tired or stressed.

I notice it happens more often to me when I'm really tired or stressed. I get sleep paralysis frequently too! It is absolutely terrifying, especially at first, but I have learned some tricks to cope with it. Firstly, eventually you will learn when an episode is coming and learn to stay calm through it and not panic. Secondly, when you get sleep paralysis, try making tiny movements, like moving your toes or fingers. Normally when I try to make big movements like move my arms I can't but if I start to wiggle my toes I can often 'break through' the paralysis.
Gold Pile
It's been a long time, years now. But I sure did hate the 5 0r 6 times it did happen. Interesting how you think your seeing very real images, but it turns out your eyes were closed. It wasn't easy, but I found that with great effort i could eventually voice a sound....it would wake me up. Eventually I learned to stay calm and knew what was really happening. It hasn't happened since I started snoring several years ago. ( few people know the the potential to snore grows with age) Maybe the sound prevents that kind of episode. Yer_Blues
Had it once or twice. Not a real pleasant experience for me, and one of the things that kept me from trying a few lucid dream methods.
Author loverofloveandstuff
Had it once or twice. Not a real pleasant experience for me, and one of the things that kept me from trying a few lucid dream methods. I remember the first time it happened to me I looked up the symptoms and found out that what I had experienced was 'sleep paralysis.' After that I started becoming interested in lucid dreaming and astral travelling, etc.

It's so strange how vivid the images are. Yas - I've been told that I should wiggle my toes but I always forget because I'm in such a panick. I need to remember!
benB
I used to get these almost every night, it was awful. It occasionally happens but I try to stay calm and wait it out. Mine usually last 2-3 mins or so. But it is definitely scary

shadowofman
I never have, but my bestie does often. I sympathize. But have you ever considered it might be demons?
Mattock5656
I don't get sleep paralysis too often, although I have a problem with sleep walking. For example, my computer has red lights on it (When its off) and my alarm clock emits blue numbers. I'll actually be half asleep and the lights will start making weird designs. Like its hard to explain, but I will make weird zig zag designs out of the lights. Also, sometimes I will think the ceiling fan is going to come off or something as I stare it. I think I'm messed up lol...Although, I have not done anything dangerous while sleep walking lol.
wuggle
Have had it lots, can be really scarey. Tip I learnt, instead of trying to move or shout etc just concentrate on 1 particular finger or thumb etc and just try to move that, seems MUCH easier to break through if you do that.
