HeavenOrHell
It's not looking good, airport at his end and my end are closed, he's due to come over Thursday. I'm gutted, he's trying to stay hopeful but he said he is worried too. This could be a horrible lonely xmas Anyone else think they might not be able to see their partner cos of the weather? creighton0123
I was initially worried that he might have trouble getting into and out of Chicago and into Boston on Wednesday, but it doesn't look to bad in Chicago and Boston Logan is right on the ocean. It requires quite the blizzard to shut that airport down. If it's steady snow that's not accumulating too quickly and they're running ice removal on the planes, things should be fine. As long as they keep the tarmac clear, there should just be some delays. It all depends with each airport. A mild freeze and blowing snow can shut down airports in southern states. I've seen Colorado airport open after dropping 2 feet of snow. As long as there's no ice. Let us know how things turn out. / hug
Author HeavenOrHell
Thank you, his airport has been closed on and off for a few days now, same with mine. Looks like your OH will make it, fingers crossed I was initially worried that he might have trouble getting into and out of Chicago and into Boston on Wednesday, but it doesn't look to bad in Chicago and Boston Logan is right on the ocean. crystle600188
Thats actually the precise reason why I'm visiting my SO in April and not now. He lives in Chicago and I live in New york, both are extremely prone to snow, chicago even more so
folieadeux
I'm so sorry to hear that! My SO will be flying into my snow-prone area, but it doesn't look like we'll be getting any during that week this year thankfully. HOH, do you and your partner live in the UK? Author HeavenOrHell
Thank you, no, not both in the UK, I'm in the UK, he's in another part of Europe. He's determined to get here, he found a way when flights were cancelled cos of the volcanic ash, he had to get a lift, bus, train, ferry, another train and then another train But that won't be possible this time cos of the weather and way more people wanting to travel. Euro tunnel queues are horrendous, everyone having to sleep at the station. I'm so sorry to hear that! Author HeavenOrHell
That's wise! We don't normally get this much snow in the UK and I don't think he usually gets quite such bad winters in his part of Europe. Rollercoasterr
ugh Pyro is flying from Detroit to LA via Chicago. I will NOT be happy if there is a delay next week. Mathew spent another night in Cedar Rapids last night because of how bad Chicago was. The airport was shut down completely. Too bad American Airlines are stupid and still tried to fly, they got all the way to Chicago and then had to turn around and go back to Cedar Rapids. All the other airlines had canceled their flights hours before. I just want him home soon.

If he gets stuck there, I would so drive the 16 hours to pick him up. Edit: Just checked on things for tomorrow. BF is arriving/departing Chicago during a good weather window on United, one of the only airlines that has been free from delay/cancellation. That made my day. Best of luck to everyone in partner, holiday travel. Edited December 21, 2010 by creighton0123

I'm waiting on one of my boyfriend's gifts to be shipped from the UK. I really hope it friggin' gets here in six days. I ordered it a month ago.
Feelin Frisky
Sorry Hell, that's a bummer and I feel for ya. I never had an LDR but one time I had a wonderful SDR that was about an hour away by car. As I was going to her place around Christmas there was a "temperature inversion"--a rare weather phenomenon, at least on Long Island--and every vehicle on the road was suddenly on solid ice. I was in a traffic jam where no one was moving and people still were crashing into each other just by gravity and slopes. I could hear BAM, BAM, BAM all aound me. After 3-1/2 hours I finally arrived--thankfully unscathed even though my car slid down a hill into a pile of other cars. She had fallen asleep and gave me an attitude (no cell phones common yet). So there I was, drinking the champage myself while she snored. The fact that I had to leave my car at her place for the next 5 days because of the ice eventually penetrated her frosty attitude that something truly out of the ordinary was gripping the city. Oh, the things we do for love.

Author HeavenOrHell
Thanks FF! Sounds pretty hairy driving on ice, well done for getting there! Hope she was appreciative! Author HeavenOrHell
it's looking more hopeful now, flights are mostly running now, I won't relax until we meet though. Feelin Frisky
Thanks FF! Sounds pretty hairy driving on ice, well done for getting there! Hope she was appreciative! No. She was a c word. My saga went unheaded while she slept POed that I wasn't there. I can dig where she was coming from. I never stood her up or was late or uncertain about anything to that point between us. So, she had to deal with the first time I said I was going to do something and I was a "no show". I don't know what could have been going through her mind. But sleeping like that didn't prepare her for my story of a freaking temperature inversion--something even I had never heard of. It was rain followed by an instant 20-30 degree temperature drop. Boom. Ice everywhere on everything--trees, wires, antenna, sidewalks, streets, cars, leaves--everything with clear water ice rock solid. Doesn't make for a good story at first. But we "weathered" it. Post is delayed by a week to 10 days, on top of the usual delays caused by Xmas. Thanks for the update and glad to see more flights are running. I just saw on the news that they're expecting snow showers for our area on the day my SO is supposed to land, but I'm trying not to stress out over delays already. They seriously never know what's going on because this wasn't forecasted yesterday. I wish I had a job where I was paid to be wrong 99.99999% of the time.
